The survey found only 35% approve of how Congress is handling its job, down 5 percentage points in a month. That gives lawmakers the same bleak approval rating as Bush, who has been mired at about that level since last fall, including his dip to a record low for the AP-Ipsos poll of 32% last January.

Citizenjane,
You DO realize that in that last poll, you had over 50% more DEMOCRATS polled than Republicans, right? No?! You didn't look into it for yourself?!

Well... since it seems you're a liberal, I suppose I can't really be surprised.

To the asker:
It is extremely sad that the demoncrats are willing to overlook these low approval ratings simply because congress has not had them for two years.

I think it's VERY telling when support drops this rapidly (whereas approval for a president tends to drop overtime, as Bush's has been doing, not to mention that it would be much higher if he had not alienated himself from so many conservatives.). Five percentage points in one month is absolutely HORRID... ESPECIALLY considering they've been in power for less than 150 days (democrats need to learn math). A steep drop like that says something about how the country feels about them.

I wonder whether a large part of it could come from their REFUSAL to fund the troops (and before demoncrats claim that their party cares about the troops, I call it BS. If they did, they'd have come up with some kind of bill or plan before going on VACATION for two weeks, and they wouldn't be bragging about how many seats they BELIEVE they'll pick up).

Simply put, the demoncrats are playing politics with our troops' lives (and that's about ALL they're doing), and the American People are, as predicted, responding EXTREMELY negatively to it.

Bullsh*t all you want. that is solid to be a democrat top now. With each and all of the whining and moaning I see happening right here, that is ordinary to make certain you're all squirming on your panties. that is ordinary to spin this into Bush's fault while you evaluate it quite is. Get out of the basement and pa out into the sunlight hours. And your hyperlinks s*ck too. "Scouring the bowels of the internet"??? i assume regardless of it takes to make your sorry *ss case. you're additionally probable one in all people who's merely one ailment far flung from bankrupcy yet will nonetheless vote the occasion line and against your suitable interest. So a millstone for you. You deserve it.

Actually, I'm hoping that the left will blame Bush for Congress's low numbers.

And for ONCE, they'd be right.

Citizenwhatever: Check your facts. I know it's real easy to pull numbers out of yer *** when it comes to Bush, but try some cold hard facts:

35% -- AP-Ipsos
38% -- CNN/Opinion Research Corp
34% -- USA Today/Gallup

The left, the right and the center will spin any poll result to what they think is their best advantage. I suspect I would do the same if I supported one side or the other.

Your question seems to be a variation on the "hypocrisy" non-issue that folks on any side use against the other when it is easier than explaining their position on a complicated issue. It's kind of like the "flip-flopping" issue (call someone names rather than explain reasons for opposing whatever new position he/she is taking).

My thoughts, for what little they're worth:

1) My side's "courageous convert" is the opposite side's "treacherous traitor" and vice versa.

2) When our positions on an issue seem to be popular we want elected officials who disagree with us to be "democratic" and do the public will. When our positions on issues are in the minority we want elected officials who agree with us to be "steadfast" and do what we feel is right.

3) What would I think if I were driving after having too much to drink, and someone else who often does the same thing called the police and had me arrested? I'd call the person who called the cops a hypocrite ... but If that person did nothing to stop me, and I killed someone while driving drunk, I would wish more than anything in the world that someone had stopped me no matter how much of a hypocrite they would be by doing so.

Darn perspective! It ruins so many good shouting matches.

It was low to begin with, but for Congress to lose 5 points in ONE MONTH! That speaks volumes. Even Pelosi's dropped from like 45% to 40% approval in a month.
Everyone keeps saying yeah but Bush has been there for two years. But he never lost the approvals this fast.
Those that are saying that Bush is at 28% obviously did not read the pertaining article and are looking a their weird poll watchers instead.

They will just blame it on Bush. Don’t you know everything is Bush’s fault? If your are a pin headed liberal it is Bush’s fault because he started no idiot left behind or something like that. So now we have to drag liberals through reality for years until they see what the world is really like and wise up.

no. That's because the left is that 35% that approve of what congress is doing in the poll, the rest of us know they are just as bad if not worst the GWB

Bush's approval rating has been low for years, the new congress has been in there for what? around 200 days? also makes it kind of hard to do anything when Bush veto's every single democratic bill that gets onto his desk.

like Evan said, ask me when it's been that low for two years...

They can't acknowledge that their ideas are less liked than Bush's. That's why they are starting to wobble.
