Do I need a college education to become a fiction novelist, if so then what kind of college education exactly (like what do I need to study)

What no one here has mentioned so far is that you need a college education in order to get a decent job that will pay your bills while you write in your spare time.

A college degree is not required but it will be very difficult to get an agent or to have a publisher take your book proposal seriously without a degree. A big part of pitching a book proposal is explaining why you are qualified to write it and listing what types of education or experiences would make you a good author. If you don't have an education or college experience, you'll need something else to use to show you're qualified to be a writer. Good writing is not always enough.

An education would help -- though is not completely necessary. Several universities have creative writing programs. Majoring in literature or journalism would also be useful. Depending on what kind of fiction interests you, courses in philosophy, history, psychology and the sciences couls also help.

You don't need to go to college to be a fiction writer, but you could get a creative writing degree if you want to.

No, you don't NEED a college education- however, it helps to have an excellent editor if you choose not to go to college.
