There is no more cosmic purpose to your life than inthe life of a gnat. if you want to have a purpose to give you direction and stability, then it comes from you, not the universe.
A comet could hit tomorrow and wipe us all out. There is no "purpose" to any life other than the recycling of free energy at the surface of a planet.

I believe that every one has one ultimate purpose in life that must be fulfilled before death and I also believe that there are many other purposes on the way.
I don't believe that purpose can be created by ourselves as "purpose" really implies a predefined direction and almost "fate". To go down this track would be a little sticky so I will not digress.
Assuming that we believe that we have at least one purpose, then that purpose won't change regardless of the choices we make but it may hamper our path in getting there and perhaps take us on the longer road.
Ultimately, if you believe in having a purpose, then all our decisions will either take us towards that purpose or away from it. The difficult question is finding out what our purpose is and most of the time we don't know and never find out.
Now heres another interesting question. If we knew our ultimate purpose and it had to be completed before we die, would we be able to keep that purpose incomplete and live longer??

Hi!
I personally don't believe that we all have an ultimate purpose. This would suggest that there is some God that designed us for some purpose, and during our lives we spend our time looking for or carrying out this pre-defined plan.
I also wonder about the term purpose. A saw and a screwdriver was designed and made for a purpose but is this really the same for humans? Some tools are also made for different purposes.
Is that it? Am I a mannequin that goes around fulfilling certain purposes? No way man!
I don't believe in purposes - I believe in goals, ambitions, and dreams.

In my opinion, people have a natural continual disposition
regarding maturity. I also believe that people both are
conditioned by and condition each other and nature.
To state that the nature aspect of a human being only
plays a part in initially defining a human is to ask
the question when is the initial interval in which nature
influences the traits of the human. Therefore, nature
continues to influence human development even
while nurture conditions human development. Due
to nature I think that each individual is predisposed to
multiple categories of purposes, but the individual
has the opportunity to succeed outside of the natural
categories through training/nurture. People have
the opportunity to participate in many purposes, but
each individual makes the choice whether to engage
themselves in a purpose.
I believe that people have several(limitless potential)
purposes.
People do not necessarily create purposes, but people
do make the choice of whether to get involved in the
purposes which are available.
To condense the many purposes people have in life into
a single purpose is to lose details within the combine
of a holistic purpose.

Yes, our coming to Earth is not by chance! We all have a reason for being! Some have been Teachers in the Past, maybe Healers, Musicians, Artist, Sculptors! We all came into being to learn in this lifetime! Each individual will have different requirements, no two are alike! There is a power in the Universe for Good that directs all Life and Experience. We all contribute to a much larger plan than we can ever realize!

Don't you think our purpose is to learn? To learn about what is our purpose and in the process to realize it. Therefore the purpose would be something of constant, non-changing. If it were changing then it can't be considered something fundamental. Only when we have something constant can we rely on it to build upon it. Asking the question is great first step. Many people do not even wonder about it. : )

If we have no cosmic purpose, then our moral purpose is to better in some way the lives of people around us. Whether that's on a global scale, by writing or art or music or movements, or just on a personal level, it's worth just the same... ...nothing, in the end. Well, anyway, it's a nice sentiment ;-)

I believe that all is written, even the purposes in our life. The choices we make will not alter what is written. The purpose of our existence is given to us upon birth. Each and every one has to fulfill his/her purpose in life.

It seems to me, some people are born with a purpose, others (myself included) are left somewhat directionless but able to accomplish many things; and still others I compare to worker ants (necessary in their work and life; but creating or leaving no lasting memory behind.)
And certaintly, our purpose can change or suddenly become clear at the drop of a hat.

Aside from scientific considerations, it does not make common sense that an ultimate purpose existed a millisecond after the Big Bang......
