I agree that he should see an orthopedic doctor ASAP because he has shoulder instability that sounds pretty significant. Physical therapy may be ordered as a conservative treatment and it may work but if it doesn't then surgery may be required. If the PT does work then he has to keep up with the exercises indefinitely because PT will not cure the problem, it only shows him how to manage the problem for the rest of his life.

There is damage or a problem with his shoulder socket. A woman at work had similar trouble with both shoulders for which she eventually needed surgery. She tried Physical Therapy, but there was minimal improvement.
When it is back in the "socket", he should at least let it rest a few days so some of the injured tissues might start to heal. Using a sling would be a good idea, so that it can really rest.
Definitely plan to see a doctor about it.

Two words - Orthopedic Surgeon. A know someone who had the same problem. They had a pin put in the shoulder about 25 years ago, and no more problem.

your husband needs to see an orthopedic specialist. That's the only solution for this problem.
