presidential status, 35% approval, what is america telling us now? back in november america said, we have had enough with the war and we want a change, so here you go mr/ms democrat. is it the congress' lack of focus, although they have been rough on g.w., to find a solution versus their despise for mr bush? or is it the republicans hard headedness to end this on their terms, meaning the iraqi war situation.

and if you will notice everyone the name calling stars instead of a reasonable answer. this is exactly the problem with the more extreme liberals. they think name calling will solve problems. i guess my lack of intellect is only matched by the hate so "thoughtfully" written below. this a question with no biased, only what does the approval rating say about what all americans want. temper the hate please.

People, you just have to try to grasp this as best as you can. Yes, the American people are not satisfied with how the war in Iraq is going.

But by no means is there anywhere near a majority that wants to simply pull out. The Democrats in congress and running for the presidency know this. THEY KNOW THIS!!! Do you think for one minute, if a majority of Americans wanted us to just pull the troops out that the democrats in congress be so afraid to cut the funding? COME ON!

The American people are very displeased with Congress right now for not simply passing a clean, emergency funding bill for the troops. The longer the democrats screw around with it the lower the opinion of congress will get.

The image in the heads of Americans is of soldiers on the battlefield running out of bullets. You cannot overcome that. This funding bill game playing may very well deliver a republican controlled congress at the next election.

Well, I guess I don't really have to say much as the first person who answered this question answered it so well. The house and senate drafted a great bill to get us out of this quagmire, giving a wonderful time line for the pull out from Iraq and the setting up of Iraq to take care of itself. The bill passed and everyone was happy. That is everyone except for George W. He vetoed the bill as expected. What he expects nobody really knows. I don't know what he expects to do to win this war, as it is not winable, and we should just pull out as the house and senate have so aptly said. But he got us into this war for his own reasons and he wants to stay in this war for his own reasons. Unfortunately, the Democratic lead is not high enough to over ride Bush's veto, and so the veto stays.
And yes, like this other person said, we are in a situation like Viet Nam, only in some ways worse. We inherited Viet Nam from the French, we were lied to by our government about what was going on in Viet Nam. We were told that if we lost that war the entire world would be prone to turn to communism, so we had to win, we had never lost a war and this couldn't be the first. It was all lies. Well, here we are in a war we started ourselves for the wrong reason, basically for the ego of a President. We were there for the whole beginning of the war, we watched it on TV, there were no lies at the beginning, we felt for our service men abroad, we were proud of them, we wanted to see Saddam captured. And then everything became one giant mess. Saddam and Bin Laddan became one, when there was no proof that there was any connection, but the lies continued to continue to keep us involved in the war and to keep us wanting to be there. Well, it didn't work, we had another Viet Nam, we were where we weren't wanted. The locals don't want us, they want us out and we won't leave. Solutions have been found, but the Shrub won't take them, and that's why his rating is so low, it's lower than Nixon's rating something I thought I would never see.
Sorry for going on, but this is something I find very hard to live with. It is draining our economy and killing our service men. It's time to bring them home and not in body bags.

It would be nice if you had the intellect to compose a paragraph that could at least make sense.... President Bush can't do it either---nor can any of his speech writers as evidenced by any NUMBER of his televised speeches over the years.... 35% approval rating tells us that there is 65% of the residents in this country who DO NOT APPROVE of how Bush is running (I mean ruining) this country. Mathematically speaking, that comes to a MAJORITY--a very WIDE majority of the population who don't like how Mr. Bush is handling Iraq or much else. Our legislators sent BUSH a bill that would have gotten our soldiers out of Iraq but George decided to VETO this bill and do whatever he damn well pleased... regardless of how many more of our soldiers die in a meaningless CIVIL WAR that we shouldn't be IN. Obviously you are not old enough to remember the Viet Nam War, but I am and Bush is handing us another Viet Nam and NOTHING good will come of that!!!!

Impotent members of Congress face off with an equally impotent Republican administration over a tragic and expensive boondoggle that George W. Bush wanted - at any cost. I wish you had enough intelligence to write a logical and complete sentence, but I can see you are devoutly following in your beloved President's footsteps.
It's uninformed, brainwashed 'ditto heads' who believe all the Hitler-like propaganda from the Bush administration, and the cretins who support his (like Limbaugh and Hannity) that fail to see what a horrendous mistake Bush has made and how American taxpayers will be paying for it for generations to come, even at the demise of our own society. -RKO- 05/12/07

Just a comment - the 35% is equally split between Democrats and Republicans.
