Here is an explanation as to why it could be your battery even though your gauge is reading normal: Sometimes a cell within your battery will 'go bad' and this is usually an popular problem to have during the fall or transition to colder weather. You will still read normal voltage, but when power is really needed the battery cannot produce the amperage required by the starter because of the damaged cell. What you need to do is bring your battery to a local parts store where they can load test it for FREE and they will let you know if you have a bad battery or not. If not, then I would say it sounds like you have a bad starter solenoid.

Sounds like the battery has had it, but I would get good mechanical advice. Even if it is just the battery, jumper-leading some newer cars can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing and have the right gear (can damage the car). Batteries do just die like that. If you need a replacement battery, I suggest try to get a good one with a good warranty on it, and join the motor/driving association in your area if you can and haven't already as they can be called out to help and bring a new battery (when it happened to me, I only had to pay for the cost of the battery). If it is something else, the mechanic can help you. Good luck.

Hello There!
I have this happen to me and thought the worst. . .like the starter or the generator, etc. But both times it turned out to be the battery!
See if you can find somebody with cables to help you try to jump start the car. Then drive it around for a good long time. . .at least an hour out on the highway and see if that helps. You could just need a new battery.

It could be a number of things, but this sounds like a battery problem. When the charge isn't enough to start the engine, that is the noise you will get. Try getting a jump start and go to a local store or garage to get the battery checked. You will probably need a new one.

The 1st thing you need to check is the battery, if it's too low it doesn't have enough power to engage the starter to turn the engine over

The problem could be that your battery's dead or you alternator has a problem. Try and get a friend to jump start you and see if you can take it to the nearest mechanic.

Sounds like a weak battery. Try jumping it and if it starts, problem solved.

check battery....then starter....then alternator...sounds like you have some juice just not enough to turn over.
its going to be one of these three.
stupid question....does the car have gas? Someone actually siphoned gas from my car last summer when gas was as high as it is now.
