George Washington Carver invented a lot of things and improved the soil of the south that was ravished by cotton. It took 50 acres to get 1 pound of cotton. But Carver planted 1 acre and got 50 pounds of cotton. The southern farmers listen to him and did the same by planting peanuts to put nitrogen in the soil for crop rotation. When harvest time came there was no market for so many peanuts...the farmers wanted to lynch George. He prayed and came up with the many inventions from the peanut we use today.

I remember visiting Edinburgh Castle and seeing a statue of Robert the Bruce. My Dad told me a story about him watching a spider build a web over and over until he got it right. He told me that Robert even though he had suffered defeat at the time had learnt from the spider that if at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again.
