Yep, you're getting some good suggestions here. A CD can hold about as much as 700 floppies. The flash drive one suggested here is probably your best bet. It works like a floppy. Just pop it in a USB port and it saves and works kind of like a floppy, but it's faster and holds a lot more. There's different sizes it hold depending on price. They're very affordable, sometimes $5-$10, and they fit on your keychain. Check it out.

It's called a CD-R/RW. Floppy discs are old news. Stores like PC World have stopped selling them as the CD has replaced them you can get 100 blank Cd's for under £10. They store 700 MB and are not as easy to break. They are definitely a good buy.

An easy solution to your portable storage problem is to purchase a small USB memory key/flash drive. These come in a variety of sizes: 256 MB, 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB, etc. You do of course have other options (burn to CD, etc.) but this one is definitely as simple and as portable as using a floppy disk.
Here are some examples.

The LS-120, the Sony Hi-FD and the Caleb Tech UHD144.

But they never gained popular acceptance. Cheap, fast and handy USB flash drives are now the most popular replacement of the floppies.

I would suggest a USB flash stick, many techies will have a flash stick with their main files loaded, so that if they need to restore they can just copy them over. If you are looking for something bootable you can use a bootable CD.
