1) the great Einstein used 4 dimensions to describe his "space time models", all through his life.

2) now, there is new theory to describe our universe - Super string theory;

it has over 20 dimensions to capture the universe;
it is capable of - keeping past, present and future side by side - literally........

remember "Mandrake episodes" when he travels in big car to the year of 1776 and fought civil war; then retuned to present day only to be in future as well!!!

He never dreamt of four dimension. He did add a fourth dimention to the equations of physics when he realized that there is no universal master clock for the universe. Different reference frames will have valid but different time readings when they are at motion to each other.

He never dreamt that.

He did not even suggest 4D spacetime. That treatment was entirely due to the Latvian mathematician Minkowski. He stuck to the old ways himself.
