I found out about the B12 theory through various readings on autism and web site groups I belong to.

My son had them once a week.

There were no adverse side effects.

I did not see any significant changes in his lifestyle.

You can go to the Cure Autism Now or D.A.N.! website and go into their research or biomedical files for information for references in the relation between Autists and B12.

My son did become somewhat more verbal after shots but they have been coincidental as well.

Many people believe B12, DHA, Omega3s, Magnesium and Zinc are good supplements for autistic people. Many Autists have shown vitamin deficiencies with these specific vitamins. Personally my son takes a vitamin with high level of all of these.

I listened to a very interesting piece on You tube re. autism diagnosis and what helped significantly improve a li'l boy's life and his parents. Go to youtube.com. Type autism in teh search box. Amonst various results, look up Jake's story. There are many 7 min. slots. Start from part 1, 2a, 2b and on. Jake's father narrates how B12 significantly helped the boy. Obviously the father is doing this to help other folks, perhpas you can write to him.
Hope this helps. Good luck and God bless.

B12 will only have a "profound" effect on your neurological function if you have a profound b12 deficiency, which your regular doctor can run a test for. There's no "special vitamin" for autistic people, no sham treatment that you can get to make things magically "better". If you have SPECIFIC problems you want to work on, seeing a psychologist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, etc (whoever is relevant) can help you work on that particular problem, but you'll never be less autistic. That's life, embrace it.

I have never heard of using b12, however, go research the internet for the new studies they are doing with zeolites, something they get from volcanic rock, that eleminates heavy metals from the body...they are trying to see if it removes the mercury, that they feel might be the definate cause of autism. I have taken B12 shots, but for my nerves, never for anything else. God Bless, through Jesus, for your search...and for those who'se children have it? I have two children with Autism and the B-12 shots never did anything for them except increase their appetites and make them want to eat more. My oldest took them once a week and the youngest once a month. There really are no diets to help I have read that a gluten and casein free diet will help but neither one of mine was never on the diet.
