Dear ball_pin_soccer,

First let me say that there are Scriptures which teach about being secure in our salvation, so people who focus only on these Scriptures will say that there is nobody who can take away your salvation. And so even though suicide is not something that the Lord would want an individual to do- that even that act would not result in a direct ticket to hell. One particular verse is found in the book of John where Jesus teaches that no one can snatch those who are in the Father's Hands from Him.

Those on the other side of the fence will quote Scriptures that teach about the importance of trusting the Lord and they would argue that someone who would commit suicide really didn't have a trust in the Lord. The Bible is filled with countless stories about God helping those in very dire situations. And the Scriptures do also teach that God will never give us more than what we can bear. (Although i will say as a person-- i've seen people suffer greatly (ie: the loss of their spouse) and it puts them into such a depression where entertaining suicide is a very real burden that seems more than they can bear).

As a theologian it's a very interesting topic to me, and i think first it's important to look at Scripture holistically. As we read each of these individual verses- none of the verses are talking specifically in a context about suicide (though the verses can be applied to that topic).

My honest answer through all my years of studying God's word- is i don't know for sure whether a person will go directly to hell if they commit suicide- i tend to lean towards 'no' from a theological standpoint- though as a pastor- one time a youth kid asked me and i wasn't sure but i thought he might have had a plan so i told him 'yes' and this bought me some time to find out more.

That being said i really think that it's a secondary question. The Bible really teaches about a God who loves us, redeems us, and is with us, and who can deliver us from anything. A person shouldn't not commit suicide because they are afraid of going to hell. A person should not commit suicide because Jesus loves them, and their life is meaningful and precious. i think i would be more concerned as to why a person is asking that question- and really care for them and point them to Bible verses where God promises His comfort, His care, His love. A person doesn't have to come to a point where life loses so much meaning or any pain is too great to bear-- that Jesus can't rescue them from that.

Hope that helps. Feel free to email if you need any clarification on anything or if there is anything i can help you with by just listening.

Bless You. Kindly,

Nickster

The Bible really doesn't cover the subject for a very GOOD reason.

Adultery, murder, theft -- it is easy to make a law against such things.

However, every incident of suicide gets judged on its own merit. It is clear that those who do it out of cowardice will be damned. Those that do it for the sake of euthanasia -- because they suffer incredibly no matter what medicine they are given, these may probably find mercy with God if they during their lives were faithful Christians. The word is probably because the Bible is silent. But then there is no fear in love.

Such should not be encouraged by others. A decision for euthanasia must come from themselves and if possible should receive government sponsored aid in finalizing their departure.

Suicide does not condemn a person to hell. We are all born into the world with a sinful nature, that makes us a child of hell.

If a person has never accept Jesus into their heart, hell is already their destiny.

The blood of Jesus covers all sin! The Past, the Present and the Future. Its just that a believe who pratices sin, greives the Holy Spirit, and they loose the abundant life that Jesus promises us. It bogges us down Spiritually, therefore, we ask for forgiveness.

If a believe gets down so much in life that they do commit suicide. They will stand before the judgment seat of Chirst, as we all will do.

People try to relate to Judas on the subject of suicide. However, of all the things Judas knew about Jesus, the one thing he didnt know, was that he could have asked for forgiveness, and Jesus would have forgiven him.

Suicide is the loss of hope. That's why Judas Iscariot never became a Catholic saint, because he suicided. There could have been a possibility for him to be canonized into a saint if only he did not kill himself.

Suicide is murder. The 5th commandment "You shall not commit murder" covers both literal and illiteral meanings. Suicide is still killing, killing oneself. Taking illegal drugs is also a violation of this commandment and so is drinking and eating alot because it is killing oneself ... slowly.

God bless! Always!

No, it does not. But it should be discouraged. The bible is a message of hope.

No one except our Father knows what will be the spiritual fate of one who commits suicide. I won't even speculate.

each and every sin is forgiveable, if forgiveness is asked for, and a person repents. if a person contemplates suicide, and later repents and seeks God's forgiveness, he is forgiven, just like that, as soon as he asks. but then, if you contemplate it, and ask forgiveness, but do it anyway, you really haven't repented. but then again, somebody answered by saying that only God can judge us, and that's also right. tough question.
