I'm Italian and I perfectly know what porridge is (even if just once I've tooken the courage to taste it and it didn't like me at all...!!)
To describe it to an Italian you should say :
"E' una pappa preparata con fiocchi o farina di avena o con la farina di altri cereali" that translated into English is
"Is a pap prepared with rolled oats or oatmeal or other cereals' meal"

I guess here above answerer Bill C. is unaware of the Italian cooking being renowned to be simple and nutritious ...!!!

You could say: Il porridge è un piatto della cucina inglese, consumato solitamente durante la prima colazione, consistente in una densa zuppa a base di farina d’avena e cereali cotti in acqua o nel latte, condita con zucchero, panna o marmellata.

I live in Italy.

That's a tough one as porridge does not exist here!

However 'un misto di cereale bollito' might get the general idea across.

farinata d'avena?

But no self-respecting Italian would ever try such revolting stuff!

Not possible. They do not know what plain simple nutritious food is.

I mean cover everything in sauce .. make it as colourful as you can .. only twelve flavours on your plate? Why so mean?
