One thing that Christians like to argue with me is on the nature of "Hell". The word "hell" is innacurately translated in the King James Version of the Bible because it is used to refer to three completely different places. The first is Sheol (Hades in the Greek) which is "the grave", the second is Tartarus which is a dungeon for fallen angels, and the third is Gehenna, a pit right outside Jerusalem which was used for dumping dead animals into. A fire had to constantly keep burning there to keep down the smell. Gehenna is the term that "Jesus" referred to people being thrown into after Judgment. I believe they will be burnt up in the flames:

Isaiah 66:24
"Then they will go forth and look On the corpses of the men Who have transgressed against Me. For their worm will not die And their fire will not be quenched; And they will be an abhorrence to all mankind."

Notice the fire and worm are there but the bodies of the people are corpses.

Matthew 10:28
"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.

This is "Jesus" speaking in this verse and notice how he says God is able to DESTROY both BODY and SOUL.

Thirdly, the Bible says the wages of sin is death. It doesn't ever say the wages of sin is everlasting torment.

That is true one love. I think some pagan beliefs have mixed in with Christian beliefs just like the holidays of Easter and Christmas.

The wicked will suffer a painful prison of loneliness and seperation from God after death until the Resurrection, at which time they will be sentenced and "annihilated" in the "eternal" fire that will also destroy or "cleanse" the earth for the New Jerusalem.

You are ablsolutely right they cant be suffering for ever or at all for that matter another bible verse Ecclesiastes 9:5 says the dead are conscious of nothing at all. (And the bible does not lie). A person or dead one cant be in Hell forever because even in the King James version Rev. 20:13 shows that a person can & will come out of hell which proves that hell is only the common grave of mankind look at Jonah 2:2. its the place where he thought he was gonna die.his grave in the belly of the fish. what a person have to worry about is the Lake of fire which no one comes out or will be resurrected again this is the 2nd & final death. Sorry Mike M if a believer dies he's waiting to be resurrected not with Jesus yet (Acts 24:15)(John 5:28,29)

u should teach BIBLE friend, because you do it well. I am a christian, and I think u r right about alot of this. GOD doesn't torment the evil sinners forever. their death is forever, and their regret is when they see what they missed and when they had the opportunity to accept it. The eternal damnation is just that, .. a person can be damned by someone or thing , by missing out on an opportunity that would have been better. hell is the grave, and as u also describe it. there is a place where all of sin will be destroyed and those who have embraced it. but those who remain will not have to see them burning forever and ever. we won't need to, and it would be a bad experience.

Hello, in Rev.20:6 Jesus talks here about the second death, the "EFFECTS" of hell is forever but death pain and sin does have its end, only those who are within God's kingdom have eternal life, and in Malachi 4 we are told that the wicked will be as ashes in verse 4, and in Rev.21 the next chapter after hell God is making a new earth, so Hell is no more, again its the effects of Hell NOT THE BURNING that is forever, oh God also talks about the word hell also in describing the place we call the grave or death, find out more free bible lessons www.amazingfacts.org email me also wgr88@yahoo.com God bless

Don't be mad at me, sweetie, but there's no hell. In the term that is not inside the earth with a man in red with tail and fire and whatnot. But they will suffer by the wrath of God toward the wicked.

You're right! They'll be annihilated once, not for tortured for eternity!

ps- Not only were dead animals thrown in Gehenna, but they also threw in wicked people who they believed to be too bad for a proper burial.

The soul is immortal according to Scriptures. You are basing your doctrines on mistranslations of Scriptures confusing physical death with spiritual death and assuming that because only God can destroy the immortal soul that He will, the Scripture only says He can, not that He will.

Matthew 5:22 says it best:
... shall be in danger of hell fire. (gehenna)
Not much clearer than this.

From the Jewish point of view...no one stays in Gehenna for all eternity.
