I'd love to take my wife fossicking for fossils for Mother's day tomorrow, but I'm unsure where to go. Searching the internet hasn't helped us much . We're based in Maitland and want to do it just as a day trip.

My step father,a geologist and avid fossil hunter (who coincidentally also lives in Maitland) suggested these places a while back:
Seaham,Dudley Rock Platform and the Merewether rock platform,if you are permitted to do so.
None of these places are far away from where you live.

One thing to remember is that it is illegal to remove anything from a national park without permission. If you find fossils in any of the many national parks, you must leave them where you find them.
