proclaiming there selfless acts to the world and touting how much they help the less fortunate when they have never ever done anything for anyone without a price. A few examples, back in the day I did alot of drugs. When I started trying to get my **** in order I went to teen challenge. After two weeks in the program I was told to accept christ, pretend to accept christ, or leave. I left. Missionaries are continually doing this type of work. "I will feed you if you believe." Even the religion itself comes under threat. Believe or I will torture you forever.

How can this be a religion of love or peace with such beliefs and tactics?

The funnest thing for me asking these questions is that if a christian has no answer or you can prove that they are involved with something thats just messed up they tell you your telling lies etc.

No lies here folks I have no need to impress you nor do I need to make things up to prove the fallacy that YOU ARE. You handle that quite well yourselves.

Actually rev r it would matter what you say perhaps however I see that you exemplify what I am speaking about.

I am just grateful for people like cricket that actually represent what jesus taught as opposed to representing what they think.

Thank you cricket.

Indeed.

Let us just take one example- the vatican.

The Vatican is the single wealthiest economic entity in human history and has dominated all others for over 1400 years including the US, China and European powers.

It is conservatively estimated that the Vatican owns more than $3,000 Billion in assets, of which only a fraction (around $300 Billion) is in visible assets such as hospitals, schools, etc.
See:
http://one-faith-of-god.org/final_testament/end_of_darkness/truth/truth_0020.htm

The rest is hidden away in complicated trusts and front companies.

So just imagine then. Imagine the Catholic Church decided to tithe just 10% of its massive wealth to saving the world after 1400 years of accumulating it!

With just 10% or $300 Billion, the Pope could end global poverty tomorrow, could educate every single child on the planet.

Now wouldn't that be an act of "Christ-like" charity and compassion?

Do you think it will ever happen?

Hey Jamustri,

Just wanted to say that i'm sorry to hear about an organization that was supposed to represent Christ- sending you an un-Christ like message in their actions especially during a time when you were getting your life cleaned-up. i can't vouch for all Christians and missionaries but as someone who has a desire to work with missionary kids in the future i know that any missionary who asks someone to pretend to accept Christ- is not a missionary who understands the mission that God has sent them on. People should be missionaries to share God's love with other people (and respect people's right to accept or reject God's love).

As a Christian i think you should help anyone that you can. Kind of like the story of the good samaritan if you see someone who needs your help, and you can help them (you don't stop and ask them- what's your religion, etc.-- you help them.)

Christianity (the type of Christianity) that Jesus taught and modelled is not about threatening and exploiting people- but just genuinely loving people. i think that just because you meet someone else's need does not obligate them to change their views about God.

Christians need to love with a sincere heart and leave the results up to God.

i am sorry that you feel how you feel about God because certain people who were supposed to represent God's love misrepresented it... i can only say that they don't reflect the kind of Christianity that Jesus taught, and that is what it means to be a Chrisitan- to follow what Jesus taught.

Kindly,

Nickster

The church is riddled with these attitude and behavioural problems. Just look at the paedophile cases in the catholic and other Christian churches.

Look at the horrific treatment of children by monks and nuns at orphanages and religious schools and institutions. The UK government found recently that there are far more Christians in jail for sex crimes than all the other religions and atheist combined!

Recent research by Duke, USC, and UPenn has shown that just talking about sin can weaken peoples resolve and actually cause them to give in to a temptation they know they should resist, increases how many times they will actually give in to it. Therefore it is a problem of their own making - Christians invented the concept of sin and by repeatedly refer to it make themselves more susceptible to committing it!

The Christians you mention are the self aggrandising ego trippers who see themselves as holier, better and far superior than thou! They set about good works so they can say - "look how good I have been" and could not care less about the people they say they are helping!

But please do not label all Christians there are good Christians out there who believe in a loving, tolerant and forgiving God. You know - the ones calling themselves christian on here cannot stand!!!!

I'm sorry that was your experience.

It's true that many "Christians" proclaim their good deeds for all to hear. They are like modern-day Pharisees. Don't they remember what Jesus said about that kind of behavior?

There are MANY Christian organizations who go ONLY to help, not to convert. My mom's denomination, the Nazarenes, go ONLY to help, and they don't proclaim the good they do, for example.

The problem is that in today's society, you're only going to hear about the hypocrisy. What about the pastors who give money to the poor, and volunteer in soup kitchens? What about the youth groups who go to Mexico to build houses for those who can't afford to have houses built themselves? I've been PART of some of these mission trips, and while we're feeding and clothing the homeless, we do not bring up Christianity unless the people we're helping bring it up. We do not use the opportunity to proselytize.

Don't blame the RELIGION for the bad people that are in it. Blame the PEOPLE. Christ's teachings are perfect. People are not.

You are an distinct xian, well for you. I haven't any want or wish to difference your ideals. I quite simply desire that you don't desire your ideals placed wherever close govt ie be legislating in opposition to stem mobile study and so forth. Unless you might have a rational opinion that may preserve as much as scrutiny from an explanation factor of view, I think it will have to be saved personal.

yes i saw many people who justified conversion in india by saying that "can you blame christians for helping?" etc...but they don't seem to realize that most of the people who convert are doing it simply to get the money...because the churches have agreed to give them money only as long as they remain christian.

i see it happening all the time in sri lanka......they give only to christian orphanages,if a child of another religion comes s/he is FORCED to convert....i don't know ..i mean when we Buddhists do charity work in orphanages and stuff,if it's an orphanage of another relgion we don't even TALK about reilgion....but christians use every opportunity to gain converts....of course many people here won't believe but that's what's going on...

even during desperate times like the tsunami, sure they helped but it was mainly regarded as an opportunity to convert....every incident that happens like this is regarded as an opportunity to convert some more people....

You didn't talk to the right Christians. there is a lot of GOOD Christians out there who will help anyone WITHOUT asking for anything in return.

Like Shattered men they have been helping BOTH Men & Women who have or is being abused. they have helped me more then anyone. they saved my life from suicide at least 2 times. and they NEVER pushed Jesus on me NEVER. they just showed me love and is helping me over come my childhood abuse. when i met them i was a bitter downright mean person. but Pastor Deemer really helped me and so did the whole family. Please check them out they do help BOTH men & women.

I will keep you in my Prayers
