the question here is, why do you have to change religion anyway???? you rid yourself of the belief of a god for the purpose of believing in a new one???

I was baptized a Lutheran as an infant, at the instance of my grandmother. Neither of my parents were Church-going people. I came to accept the Christian faith, personally as an adult. Faith is one of the most personal issues in life. Being baptized in a sense made you Catholic. However, it is up to each individual whether or not he or she wishes to confirm their baptism and proclaim a faith in God, more specifically their faith in the saving grace of Jesus. It does not sound like you are at a place in your life where you can make that affirmation. My guess is that you've never had any instruction in just who God is, what the Church is about, or why we even need any of this stuff.

I don’t wish to spend this valuable time quoting bible verses that you don’t necessarily believe at the moment, but historically speaking, Catholicism has had a greater impact on humanity than any other “ism” in the world. Christianity is not a new innovation either! When you take into account the totality of biblical evidence we are talking about some really ancient stuff here!

Let’s look at an interesting fact – do you know that scientists who support evolution are actually ignoring a very important scientific fact -- entropy? Entropy in relation to the second law of thermodynamics has often been defined as a change to a more disordered state at a molecular level. Entropy specifically contradicts the possibility of evolution.

How about this – statistically speaking, there is more evidence supporting biblical facts than any other ancient texts! We are talking about a book that contains over sixty individual books written by over forty different authors, over a period of several thousand years. These books include prophecies that have proven to be 100% accurate. When I think about this fact alone I have only one word to say – wow!

I would suggest that you do yourself a favor and check out your local parish. Talk to the pastor and or director of religious education. They would be glad to point you in the right direction. Most Roman Catholic Churches have classes for adult inquirers. You should ask them about RCIA.

May God bless you in your search for truth!

You profess a disbelief in God. This begs the quesion - why? Why do you not believe in God?

Can you change your religion? Yes, but what do you plan on changing your religion to, whatwith your disbelief in God? Are you really asking, can you exchange religion for no religion at all?

Do I think you should? Obviously not!

Forgive me for sounding like a shrink but, why did you mention your mother? Does her profession of catholic faith juxtaposed with her lack of Church attendance have something to do with your lack of faith?

It might be confusing to wonder how someone could believe in God but refuse to go to Church. You might be wondering, what's the point of believing if you're not going to show God worship and homage.

Are you, perhaps, curious about attending Catholic mass, but want to go with someone like your mom. You know she's a Catholic after all, but are you detered by the fact she does not attend mass regularly?

It's sad when a parent does not serve as the best role model and teacher of the Faith. But that doesn't mean you can't discover God on your own. I encourage you to attend mass, on your own if need be. Perhaps, by attending mass, your enthusiam will spark an interest in your mother and, by extension, her family as well.

If all this were to actually happen, could you then deny the existance and power of God?

I recommend you attend mass this weekend. Keep this next Sabbath Day Holy. It'll will only take an hour of your time. Regardless of what happens, it's a hour well-spent.

If you don't believe in God that makes you an atheist. You sound young. How old are you?

No, I do not think you should leave the Faith. It is the most important, precious thing you have, even if you may not realize it.

I think what would really help is if you studied up on what the Faith is. A better understanding of it might help you get an answer to your question.

www.catholic.com is a good place to start.

God bless.

Congratulations but, er....what's your real question? If you don't believe the nonsense the peddle, you're not a Catholic.

I don't believe in God, but I never wonder how not to be a Christian/Moslem etc. I just carry on not believing it. The fact I was baptised as an infant is wholly irrelevant to me.

You could, of course, become a Humanist:

Don't get trapped by religions' ideas at all.

Just say NO, kids.

OK...so you are at the rebellious stage. when you get to 30 you will start rethinking things and go back to your religion.Yes..you can change your religion but in your heart of hearts you will realise that the religion you were born into is the correct one whatever it is. When it comes to a time when you want to talk to God it will be the God that you have been taught about from the time of your childhood. Remember the words....Thou shalt not have any false gods before me. I am only quoting this to you not making any judgement of you. You and you alone can only make that decision.

I have always wondered about this....

1. I am a Catholic (or Baptist or what ever)
2. I am not religious at all
3. I don't believe in God
4. Should I change my religion

1a. To be a Catholic or Baptist or what ever aren't you supposed to believe in Christ? (if not then that means religion has nothing to do with Christianity).
2a. If you are not religious at all why do you want to "change" your religion?
3a. If you don't believe in "God" or "god" how can you be religious.
4a.How can you change something you don't have.

If Nothing else this should only prove that "Religion" has NOTHING what ever to do with being a "Christian".

Thank you for proving my point.

Religion is nothing more than the state of mind you could always change it. Its not like you have something or someone making you keep what you do not want. We are not to decide for you if you were born into a household majority of believers does that automatically make you in the "correct religion"? Nope, I found this out when growing up and its not because I didn't get my prayers answered it's because in my heart and gut instincts I could no longer carry on something so false to myself.

You be what you want to be, as Felpa says, religion is a state of mind and not compulsory. Religion should not be forced on children in ANY culture, it is solely the believe of the parents and whether they were easily led one way or the other. Changing religion does not change you as a person, only the people around you.

It must be hard for you, amongst all the family. I see no reason why you should change from one religion to another. You know how you feel, you have let the family know, leave it at that. As long as your family respect what you think there is no problem.
