I think identity theft and car the theft should warrant the death penalty?

yes... pull them out of the car and string them up on the nearest light post... and leave them there for a few days... that will discourage car theft

Absolutely, positively NOT! (Of all the times to not have boldface on here!)

I fully agree with Barrett - the death penalty is evil enough on people who murder, and like I mentioned in a previous question, a lot of the time, advocates and conservative groups and angry murder victims are too quick to put an innocent person to death without laying out all the figures. Guilty until proven innocent, and especially in racially motivated communities, they are also quick to insist on execution of an alleged murderer simply because he is black or another minority race, even if evidence of his innocence comes up.

Identity theft and car theft are petty crimes. The death penalty for such measures would be too extreme here.

Umm..no.
Do we really want to be a country that kills people for taking things? Do we really want to be that nation? Plus, if you live in the North you are statistically unlikely to be executed for anything. But in the South...hoo-boy...we hang 'em high...and look out if you're black!
The death penalty is pretty close to evil even when carried out on killers. Its use is drawn around geographic and racial lines. Its unfair. Do we want to apply it to petty crimes as well?

As a victim of both of these, I do not believe they warrant the death penalty. Angry, yes. Still, rational.

I don't think it should go to that extreme. I think they should start chopping off fingers and hands like they do in other countries and maybe a few toes, tongues, ya know!
