I just installed an aftermarket radio in my 2001 dakota and now I have no sound. The truck has Infinity amp and speakers. Do I have to bypass the amp? And if I have to bypass any tips would be greatly appreciated. Or is there a way to get sound without bypassing amp? Thanks in advanced.

If you don't want to bypass the amp, then you need to activate it with the turn-on wire in the factory harness. If you used a wire harness adapter, it's a blue wire; otherwise the factory wire will be green/red or light green. This wire needs to be connected to the blue/white wire from your new head unit (or to the blue wire if your head unit doesn't have a blue/white). I'd keep the factory amp unless you're changing the speakers.

If you decide to install replacement speakers, then you should bypass the amplifer, which is located in the passenger side kick panel.

You will have to bypass the amp to get it to the speakers. Or just put the stock radio back in. It's gonna cost you another $70-80 for a part that helps the Aftermarket hook up and go through the amp.

you will get a better sound if you bypass the amp especially if you are going to add speakers. but there should be an amp turnon wire on the back of the radio it is probably blue and needs to be hooked up to the blue turnon wire on the adaptor plug for the car. if there are two blue wires on the back of the radio hook the one up with a stripe. if there are two wires on the adaptor plug that are blue hook both of them up to the blue wire off the stereo. good luck

The factory amp is located high up in the kick panel on the passenger side. To bypass it, you'd unplug the amp, locate all the "input" wires coming from the head unit, and connect them directly to the "output" wires running to your speakers. Note that you'll have to leave your factory tweeters disconnected when you bypass the amplifier. If you have after-market speakers in the front door, then you don't need the stock tweeters in the system anyway.

Did you connect the blue/white wire from the D-pin harness to the blue/white wire from your after-market head unit? (If your head unit doesn't have a blue/white wire, use blue instead). This is required to activate the Infinity amplifier.
