why do scabs itch?

everytome i get a scab from a cut it itches why is that

As a scab dries it shrinks due to evaporation.
The scab stays on for over a week. Your skin is making new layers, as the top layers sluff off over this time period. The tension between the scab and flexible skin increases until the scab loosen's and falls off -- hence the itching
