First, I have to just really know, are you super religious, up to the point where you might be called a fanatical Christian? Do you take the bible literally, word for word, story for story? Secondly, what makes your religion so much better then everyone else's in this world that you make it YOUR mission to convert everyone, so they can be "saved"? Do you respect all religions in the world and acknowledge the good of each and every religion? If you do, then why are you trying to pry these people away from their religion and try to get them to believe in exactly what you believe, which is basically conforming them? What makes you think that YOUR religion is the only right one, while everyone else's isnt as good?

This question is to Ruthie. First of all, I have debates about these exact same questions with my peers from my college and different ones frequently, I only ask these questions over the internet to broaden the scope of different views to much more people. Secondly, I do not appreciate how you are saying that I do not respect Christianity, in which the contrary is true. I respect all the good that every religion brings out and I acknowledge that everyone has their own set of beliefs for morality. Having said that, I only ask these questions because sadly, there are people out there that are exactly what this question describes; we can see them everyday in front of k-12 schools handing out bibles and trying to indoctrinate their own beliefs into young minds. Is this what religion is all about, getting as many people as you can to believe what you believe in?

I was raised to be devoutly religious. I am religious, but don't consider myself a fanatic. I don't take the Bible literally, and it's not a requirement of my church to do so. I'll gladly share my faith, but refuse to shove it down anyone's throat. I do respect other religions, and acknowledge the good within them. I'm not trying to pry anyone away from their beliefs; however, I'll extend an invitation to anyone to try my religion (or to discuss it), if they are interested in doing so. And for your final question, if I haven't been clear enough, I never said that my religion is the only right one, with all others being inferior.

I consider a true Christian who is one willing to die for their faith if necessary and I am one.
Many things are meant to take literally in the Bible and some arent. The Holy Spirit helps guide as to which is which.
If someone is convinced that God has shared with them the truth, how could they do anything but that? What would we conclude about a persons character who is given something great and then keeps it to themselves? We are simply going through with what our beliefs teach us is right and if we didnt, we would be hypocrites. and what makes our religion so much better is that is the truth and the only one that can save you.
Which would you rather have if you were starving, a wax apple? Or the real one?
If you were a master mechanic and knew the best way to maintain your vehicle, would you respect and acknolwedge the good in the other alternative ways that you knew would lead to the destruction of the car? Or would you be honest with the carowner telling them that thats the wrong way?
You cant "conform people." Conformity only comes with the cooperation and submission of the subject in question.
We believe we are the right one because we recieve answers to prayer and have been given the Holy Spirit. There just something about hearing the truth. After youve heard it, you see right through the lies!

What is truth? Hmm? Do all roads lead to Rome? Jesus said He was the way. The Jews say to pray and do good works. Basically the same as the Muslims. The Hindus have thousands of little gods to suit their every whimsical desire. There are Zen Bhuddists. There are the 'Mother Earth' people. The Wiccans. And a vast array of many many religions. All of these are supposed to be the same? With the same end? How confusing. Just like Satan wants it. He laughs at God and mocks, for he has achieved to completely blind the inhabitants of the Earth. The bible says that in the last days there will be so many false ways that the true way will be spoken of as if being evil and will be accepted as such.

There was a mandate, I think it was a Papal decree, made in the earliest times of the Christian church. It states that Christ will not come back to Earth unless, every man, woman, child and everything else with a brain and a heart beat, accepts Him as their personal savior and is re-born. It is this mentality that carried on the Crusades and the Inquisition, that made it "right" for the European settlers and the American settlers to slaughter Natives by the thousands.
It's not right, it's not fair, it's very Roman. And to quote the Apostle Rufus, from the movie Dogma "It makes the Big Man very sad, the things that have been carried out in His name." But that's what you get for having a militant, like Peter, run things when it was meant to be run by a pacifist or a woman (depending on the Apocrypha you read).

If you knew the precepts of Christianity, you might not be so quick to label those with strong beliefs as being "fanatical".
I do indeed take the Bible literally, word for word, story for story. It is the basis of my faith, so why would I not believe it?
Secondly, it's not a matter of whether my "religion" is better than anothers. It's a matter of, I don't believe that anything other than Christ is the truth. That too, is the basis for my faith, so why would I believe otherwise? If I don't believe other "religions" to be truth, then how in the world can I condone them, and think them to be "good"? To do so would be contrary to my beliefs, and compromising my faith, which I will not do.
I believe Christ is the way to go. And if I thought otherwise, I would be compromising my beliefs.
If other people reject Christ, and choose their own "beliefs", then so be it. Contrary to your statement, I cannot "convert" anyone to Christ. I can only share my beliefs with others, and they decide for themselves to accept or reject Him. I don't coerce anyone to Christ. And if you wonder why Christians witness to others, it's because they are commanded to, by the Word of God.
Those are my answers to you.

First, conversations like this over the computer are the epitome of psuedo-intellectualism. Find a real person to talk about important things about, don't do it over a computer. Faith is rooted in ancient soil that machines cant reach. Besides, I dont think its really a question.. I just think its you showing off your non-christianity.
Secondly, what makes your religion (or lack thereof) so much better than christianity that you find it your place to question people's faith via a computer? Do you respect christianity and acknowledge the good in it? If you do then why are you attacking these people and trying to comform them into how you want them to be?What makes you think that YOU are the only right one, and that you can make broad generalizations based upon one's religious beliefs?
Im not even a christian so dont even say Im a perfect example of a fanatical christian.
** Edit:
First off I'm sorry for being rude previously. True, it is sad that our society has displayed truth in your statements/questions. If you really want to change this then get off of your computer and do something. People who read your questions on the computer dont know you. Like myself no reader could know that you have much respect for the christian religion (using this question as judgement). This is why you shouldnt resort to trying to impact people through a computer. Please excuse the horrible space metaphor you are about to experience...Thousands of indents on distant asteroids are nowhere near as significant as a crater on the moon. Don't seek to make a small difference in many people's lives, try to make an astounding impact on whoever you can. Hot damn, I'll stop because now Im getting hypocritical trying to influence you.

I believe in God with my whole heart. I do not take the Bible literally, as it was written by men. I have problems with people who think Jesus sat under a tree and wrote the Bible himself. As for religion, religion was created by men also, not by God. God is God. Period. No religion is right, no religion is wrong. It's just the way people believe. I don't think my religion is the only one, and I don't think my church/religion is better than anyone else.

You're asking all of the questions I've wanted to know for the longest time? I would also like to know why I'm condemned to hell if I don't switch my religion, which is one of the most peaceful and accepting religions in the world?

I don't consider Christianity as a religion. I consider it truth, so I'm spreading truth where people need it the most. If I went around spreading some other religion, then I wouldn't be spreading truth I'd be shoving people further into confusion and darkness.
