adding: yes she is a chewer when she wants to be. and she is also a puppy.
my main consern is for the strength of the clip because im afriad if she gets losse from that we wont get her back.....because thats how we found her, as a stray and after exstuing all efforts to fine the owner we claimed he ours <3

I would go with plastic clipped ones. They come in so many cute styles. Harnesses were meant to withstand some struggling, so you really should be fine. She wouldn't be able to chew it either if it's on her body, since it would be pretty much impossible for her to reach. Good luck with your doggie! :)

I have 3 toy poodles, a chow & 2 terrier mixes. We use the adjustable nylon harnesses with plastic clips. They also have ones that look like vests that are working very nicely. I've had to pick one of my poodles up very quickly (a big dog was coming after her) & the plastic clips held great.
I saw where one of the answers had recommended retractable leads. You want to control her & train her. She should not be allowed to just run uncontrolled & those leashes should be banned. People allow their dogs to extend the full length & pay no attention to what they are doing. The leash should allow some movement but not to the extent of the retractable ones. When I walk my 6 dogs together (3 toy poodles, 2 terrier mixes & a chow), the leashes are 6 ft & I use splitters so I connect 2 dogs together. We walk 3 miles a day with no problems.

Kathy,I have had a harness for my schipperke since we first adopted the lad, and, have had no problem with the plastic clip, so I would say that plastic would get the vote from this doghouse...PS. the retractable leashes are a great teaching tool for some little runners!

I can't see that it matters as long as the clasp is strong to begin with. I did have a plastic clasp come apart after several months of use. Just check the tightness of it when you put it on. Call the Humane Society and ask them where to find. My Humane Society in Tucson Arizona sells collars and (Vet approved) harnesses in their gift shop. You could also call a Vet and ask where, too.

I have a dogwalking business & have found that with some of my smaller dogs, a product called Gentle Leader works wonders! The leash hooks under their chin, so when they want to pull, their chin just tilts down, keeping them from running. I've tried harnesses as well, & I like this better (plus its very easy/quick to put on).

if she likes to chew, metal. if she doesnt, plastic. you can get them cheap at places like $2 reject shops but i think they only sell plastic ones as far as i've seen

Try petco or pet smart if there is one in your area.I say metal is better that way it won't break when you walk her.
