I have two indoor cats, not allowed out at all. And they don't get onto the tables at all, however the younger one does get onto the shelf where our hamsters are and just stares at them. But you can't really blame him for it, its like live food that he just can't seem to get too.

Ohhh boy, you've just stirred up the whole debate about whether cats should be allowed outside or not. I posted a question on it:

Basically, cats can live happily inside, but many insist on going outside. If you give a cat a taste of the outside and then keep it in, it is going to start scratching up your house and peeing in pot plants. I let my cat outside whenever she wanted - I live in a village with woods and fields and stuff, all the cats are allowed out. No problems.

I just want people to know that keeping a cat in does NOT protect them from fleas - fleas come into houses too you know, and they bring tapeworms with them!!

My cat is never allowed outside and she seems really happy. Yes she does go on the counters and climb in the cupboards but she is only playing, she never does anything naughty.

I would never let her outside she is too precious. When she does have a walk down the corridor she gets very scared if strange noises as my house is so quiet.

hello! we have 3 adult cats, all from humane society. all 3 are inside cats as even though we live in a large town; there are coyotes, foxes, racoons and possums that roam at night. i keep them in my room during the day as our kids just don't understand the importance of closing doors. some day perhaps. our 2 males have escaped a few times and i was terrified they would be hurt or killed. after everyone is in for the night and everything locked up, we let them out into the rest of the house. for us it is just a way of keeping them safe and healthy for as long as possible.

Your cat can be trained to stay off places you don't want her on - being a cat, she will learn this lesson but won't always honor it, lol!

My cats have always been outdoor and indoor cats, but I also live in a rural setting where they have room to roam - about 1 1/2 acres...they generally stay in my fenced yard, but do climb over the short fence when the urge to explore the creek next to my home, attracts their attention. I also have a dog, which helps keep our yard free of marauding Toms out cruising for trouble/fights (my cats are all fixed). Yes, cats are safer inside, but they have to be able to use their natural hunting instincts - provide lots of toys for indoor cats to keep them busy. Also, kittens are much more likely to explore places in the home they shouldn't.

My four year old cat has never been outdoors except when I take her to the vet. I worry that she might get hurt in traffic,
stolen, or get fleas. She lays in the windows and looks outside, but does not seem bothered in the least that I don't
let her go out. She never bothers anything in the house.

I have one indoor cat. He's about a year old (not too sure he's a rescue barn cat). He's kind of psycho, but doesn't do any harm. We're at work for 11 hours a day (average), my daughter is gone for 8 hours, but he comes and goes as he pleases. The only "damage" is he likes to "knead" and "suckle" on our pillow fringes. Help any? Kinda doubt it, but let me know

My cat's an indoor cat, I just got an new kitten yesturday, but my older cat is pissed...
Anyways, I let him on my bed and my computer desk. But I don't let him on my kitchen table or diner table.
I bought cat nip for him to eat. And sometimes I let him come with us on the car for a short ride, he loves the car =D. And sometimes I put him on an leash and let him around our frontyard and backyard. So cute!

I have 6 cats...all indoors where they should be. They get into a few things just like children do but so what? At least my cats wont be attacked by wild animals, get hit by a car or get diseases from other animals/parasites.

my indoor cat knows not to get on the kitchen table or counters because I trained him when he was a kitten. I use a squirt bottle with water in it to discipline him and it has worked wonderfully
