The past few days i have been severely cutting my calories. I know people say 1-2 lbs a week is the max you should lose but why is it every one i talk to loses like 5 lbs a week? This past week ive lost 5lbs. I think people just say this because they are frustrated they cant lose the weight. What do you think?

Everyone's body is different. There can be many factors, like how fast their metabolism is, age, physical activity, medical conditions, etc... So, don't feel bad UNLESS you are losing weight for the wrong reasons, i.e. an eating disorder. I eat like a horse and am super thin...it's my genes and metabolism and I'm always sneered at or accused of having some disorder. I say, some do it because hteir jealous, or others, like you mentioned, are dissapointed with their own results. Good Luck and keep living healthy!!! You should not let other's stop you from taking care of your body!!!

Everyone loses alot when first dieting. You will lose alot of water weight. After a couple of weeks your loss will go down to 1-2lbs a week. You really don't want to lose the weight too fast because you will gain it back plus some. Hang in there you'll reach your goal!!!!!!!!

People who say they lost 5 pounds in a week are not doing in a healthy way usually which is why so many gain the weight back once they stop doing what they did to lose the weight so quickly.

It is water weight, which is not healthy (you'll need to rehydrate) and not permanent (because you have to rehydrate). It takes 3500 calories less consumed to loose a pound of fat and it takes 3500 calories more consumed to gain a pound of fat. So if your normal calorie intake per day is 1800 for females (rough example) and 2000 for males (rough example), then in 7 days you might normally consume between 12,600 and 14,000 calories. To loose 1 pound that week, you would need to eat 3500 calories less or burn 3500 calories. That would mean eating 500 calories less or burning an extra 500 calories each day for 7 days.

1800 calories a day minus 500 calories equals 1300 calories for women and 2000 calories a day minus 500 calories equals 1500 calories per day. Doctors and nutritionists will tell you that it is dangerous to eat that little per day for more than a few days. You won't get enough nutrition. You can't keep it up because you will feel deprived. When you give it up, you will probably eat more and gain weight instead of loose.

A good compromise is to eat 250 less calories a day and burn 250 more calories a day.

Metabolism is a key factor, but that is another long story. I think I made my point.

A person can usually only lose 1 to 2 lbs of FAT per week. When someone loses 5 or more lbs per week, he/she usually is still only losing 1 to 2 lbs of fat. The remainder of the lost weight usually are in the forms of water (dehydration) and muscle (starvation). This lost muscle is what slows the metabolism and makes it so hard to keep the weight off.

If you lost 5 pounds in one week, that's great, hun!

For me personally, no matter how hard I try, now matter how healthy I eat, no matter how much I exercise, I still only lose like 5 pounds a month, so dieting is VERY hard for me. I don't see results fast enough, so I give up, and I gain the five-ten pounds right back.

It's very frustrating to diet, and not see results as fast as you'd like. So, if you lost 5 pounds in your first week, I'd say you are on the right track and you are doing VERY well, hunny!

Cheers

you'll stop losing weight before too long if you are using that method. your body will go into starvation mode, and whenever you do eat anything, your body will turn it into fat to use as fuel. also, your metabolism will slow down. so yes, everyone knows you can lose more than that in a week... its just not a good long-term plan ify ou want to continue losing weight, regardless of the health issues.

They say if you lose around 2 lbs a week, you are more apt to keep it off but most people lose around 5 lbs from what I have heard. Congratulate yourself and be proud of the 5, just don't try to lose much more than that each week. Cut calories but do it in a sensible way so that you are getting all your nutrients in each day.

We all fluctuate in weight about 3 lbs from day to day. So they may have weighed themselves at a heavier time , then weighed in ata lighter time! or just flatout liars!
