Well, most are quoting or trying to believe the literal quotes from scriptures (e.g. Bible or Koran), that say a believer should be "God fearing.." or have "fear of God".

The problem, however, is that these are literal translations for other meanings-- having literal "fear" of God is not too progressive/positive, and only creates more fear in the world. What these scriptures are really talking about is "acute awareness" and "awe" rather than the negative emotion of "fear"..

The more modern translation of "fear" is "awe." Certainly everybody that believes in God would be in awe of God.
Then too, children are sometimes afraid of what a parent's reaction to them will be; this is understandable and it doesn't mean the parents are evil either. Some fear of God is like that; a feeling of being unable to measure up; again it is understandable, but it doesn't really mean God is evil either.

Language changes over time. Fear of God does not mean being afraid. Fear in this sense means being in awe of.

In my understanding, there are two types of believers: those who FEAR God and those who LOVE God.

Those who fear God only worship because they are afraid of the consequences that may happen as dictated by their religious doctrines.

Yet, those who love God worship him because they LOVE to do so. Its like loving your parents... you obey them, admire them, care for them because you love them. Or, say loving your boyfriend. Isn't it that you are willing to do anything for that person you love the most?

I wish you are part of the second group. God bless you.

To fear God doesn't mean to be scared to Him. It means to give Him a respect He deserve for giving His life for you by sacrificing Himself in the cross. This also doesn't mean to worship Him just because we are scared of going to hell. We worship Him because we love Him and we want Him to be with us all the time.

Fear of God, does not mean to be afraid of Him. Fear means to have a reverent awe of God, because of Who He is.

The fear of Lord and fear as you know it isn't the same thing. Fearing God is reverence...it's knowledge of his power and glory not to be afraid of

Nah, it just means fear of displeasing him like he's your dad and your just a child. I never liked that word because love is supposed to throw fear outside according to my Bible. O well. You either do or you don't I guess. Either way, don't worry.
