We must attend different funerals, because I'm used to other hymns at funerals.

But, my guess is that it's traditional, just like the Lohengrin's wedding march at a wedding, and it has meaning for a lot of people. I know non-Christians who like to sing it, because it has great harmonizing qualities for duets, go figure!!

I know that when someone is special to me who dies, there is usually a song sung or played at a funeral that I will always associate with the funeral. So I understand what you mean about Amazing Grace.

I do love the words to Amazing Grace, especially when I think of the author, Fanny Crosby who was blind. Her last line has more than one meaning in her life.

Because that's the song everyone knows, it's just become a tradition, like Taps being played at every military funeral.

Personally I'd prefer Homesick or I can only imagine by Mercy Me at a funeral.

It's very possible to learn to sing well. You just need to know the right methods. Learn here https://tr.im/Fapjj

Singing teachers will cost money and can be expensive so they're not for everyone. Singing can be learned so it's not an "either you have it or you don't" kind of thing.

Whether you sound like crap or you're decent, I recommend this singing course. It's one of the best methods to learn to sing well in a short amount of time. It's all about using efficient techniques that work.

Because it is a song of Salvation and Grace and the Everlasting Hope that they bring.

Funerals are not for the dead but for the living.

They are meant to help us to cope with extreme loss, say good bye for the present, and to offer encouragement to those who are left behind.

We are all saved by God's grace...
The song relates our joy to others,
and our thankfulness to God..

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind but now I see

Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
Oh how precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

I always like going out to the cemetery where my Grandparents are burried on Memorial Day, they have several guys playing bagpipes strolling around the cemetery playing songs like that.
But at my funeral i would rather they played something by Nirvana.

I can't figure it out. My favorite hymns are:

The constipated Crosseyed Bear

Locked in the Stable with the Sheep

At the Bar, at the Bar

I would rather have fingers than toes.

because it is one of the most famous christian hymns. and if the person who died was truly a believer, it would be a great witness to his/her friends about the amazing grace of God. The last verse is something that the departed Christian will just start to relate too
WHEN WE'VE BEEN THERE, TEN THOUSAND YEARS, BRIGHT SHINING AS THE SUN, WE'VE NO LESS DAYS, TO SING GOD'S PRAISE, THAN WHEN WE FIRST BEGUN."

Because it is a beautiful song. Listen to the words. And It is a personal choice made by the deceased before their death or made by the family during planning.
