Better them than us. . .

Seriously though, I have some concerns regarding animal testing, but it is an important scientific tool that I would not support banning.

I suspect there is a lot of unnecessary testing done simply to secure government grants, get a thesis or dissertation past a graduate committee, etc. Much of it is redundant. There really needs to be a good reason to do it and all other means of generating data (computer modeling, chemical analysis, etc.) should be explored before you start experimentation on critters.

Life cannot be described in black and white terms. animal testing is an important tool for developing new treatment protocols and medicines. But unnecessary testing is definitely to be stopped. The people who conduct the tests on animals are also human (similarly the people who commit crimes against fellow humans are also human) and hopefully their own conscience will be awakened at the right time.

I am against it in most situations. However, there are some important studies being done with the testing. I hate thinking about it, but I feel that in a few isolated instances - it is a necessary evil.
