The most basic human desire is to be happy in life isn't it regardless of what they believe?

Does it hurt you to see another person suffer?

For the most part we know each other more so than you might realize, we all know pain and suffering as well as happiness.

And no matter what you believe here on earth we are in it together and do depend on each other at some point in time.

Will we ever get past our own insecurities and realize the person in front of you has them too?

Some can and some never will. I am a witch, and I can truthfully say I can see some good in everyone and will never judge anyone on their religious or political beliefs. But I can guarantee that just because I said I am a witch there are those who would never get along with me. Funny thing is, they may be my friend right now but do not know I am a witch!

Yes, I think we can. Jesus once said "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the bands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side, So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.' 'Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?" The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."

It seems like a noble idea from many peoples' standpoint. But you have to understand if you believed in a religion where other people were going to suffer in hell, is it more important to save them from their eternal fate or to temporarily avoid offending them and allow them to suffer later on.

I do believe that people can get a long regardless of their beliefs or faiths. I myself have friends of differing views and we get along great.

BTW good question :)
