My friend went through one of those companies and they made her credit worse because they didn't pay her creditors on time.
I did it myself, by reading the Fair Credit Reporting Act and fixed my credit in 2 years.

These companies cannot do any more than you can. They advertise to be able to remove bankruptcies, collections, charge-offs... Can they honestly do that? Sure, for a large price and only if the entries are incorrect. They cannot remove accurate entries, no matter how much they're hurting your credit.
You can do the same thing and it won't cost you anything but a little bit of time.
You can get your free credit reports from AnnualCreditReport.com. Stay away from FreeCreditReport.com, unless you want to pay a monthly fee.
Get your reports and dispute any inaccuracies with each bureau.
It took time for your credit to go bad, it's going to take time to fix it.

I quote from the 2007 edition of the Consumer Action Handbook "Credit repair companies advertise that they can erase bad credit for a hefty fee. Do not believe them".

No, do not believe them! You need to fix it yourself & you can start by getting your free credit report from freecreditreport.com. It is alot of work, but honestly, it can be done-i raised my own credit 30 points in 3months! Here is a website that you can check out also, I monitor my report through them.....find the credit report link.

About the only way you are going to fix your credit is to file bankruptcy. and it takes 7 years to straighten everything out...

really there is pretty much nothing they can do, because do you believe that I could fly without any thrust or wings or lift? no? i didn't think so, so probably they won't do anything besides make it worse. just don't buy anything, and pay with cash.
