While each department is different, most require some type of physical agility test to qualify such a running 1/2-1 mile, obstacle courses, etc. Many require written tests, polygraphs, psychological exams, and physicals to assure you are in good health. Some go so far as to require drug tests. With my department many of these are not required until you are given a conditional offer of employment.

Physical depends on the area you're applying to. Usually the requirements aren't necessarily for the police dept. but for the academy first. Locate your nearest academy and talk to them. I've done the same in my area and they are very helpful. They want you to come in so they'll do their best to make you feel comfortable.

Physically, of course, you must be in good shape. Mentally and psychologically you must be sound. You have to be prepared to be an authority figure and when the pressure's on you are going to have to know what to do. Of course, this is all through training and if you don't come out of the academy knowing what to do, then blame the academy not yourself.

Just talk to the nearest academy and do your best. Good luck!

Every department as different standards and/or requirements. Check the police departments website, some have them posted. If not, go to your the law enforcement academy's website and their physical requirements will be there.

The requirements are fairly stringent and become moreso every year.

Odd isn't it? It's much easier to become a politician than a police officer.

Next to nothing. It's a total lack of morals and ethics they look for. So if you have neither of those, and test low for the 3 you listed you're a shoe in.

You don't have to be smarter than a 5th grader, it helps to be paranoid sycophantic and egomaniacal, and phyisically be capable of lifting your *** from your desk/vehicle.
