You can ask your doctor and not tell him which day you plan on fasting so there is no show there.

Not sure how other fasts go....... but I can tell you about ours just for information.

The Islamic fast is no water or food from sunrise to sunset.

From sunset to a little before sunrise you can eat but not overindulge otherwise the spiritual effects are lost.

This strengthens our spiritual self to overcome the base desires that is in all of us and which is necessary for procreation and survival in these earthly bodies.

This builds self control because if we can stop ourself from eating and drinking permissible things then we will have the will power to stop ourself from forbidden things if the temptation comes.

We will feel an intense peace and serenity near the end of the fast as our body loses its desire for food and water and feels a greater thirst in the remembrance of God and worship becomes sweeter than honey.

This is one of the methods God has given us in his "legalistic" divine laws which help us strengthen our spiritual interior to always be in control of our material base desires which are rebellious by nature.

Muslims typically fast at least three days a month and then 30 days in Ramadhan.

There are Muslims all over the world who work all day in 100+ heat of summer and fast in that condition.

Their inner spiritual selves have become so strong through the denial of some things for the sake of God (temporarily) that they receive a special strength and sustainance which even food and water cannot supply.

This proves that food and water does not sustain us....... GOD is the sustainer and he can sustain us with or without the means.

That is true monotheism and total trust in God.

A fast can encompass any level of deprivation. The safest way is to drink fruit and vegetable juices during the fast. If you're anemic, you can take iron supplements along with a glass of juice to ensure a buffered stomach, or you can drink a fortified juice that provides iron.

I had no idea you weren't supposed to tell people that you are fasting. That'd make life very difficult in certain situations. I am not a Christian, but I fast once a week and have for 16 years. The first time I visited my family during a fast day, my father became outraged because I wouldn't eat his wife's cooking. I explained the fast, but it did not mollify him. For the sake of peace, I alter the day I fast if I am scheduled to go to a family food event. In that case, the fast contributed to angering my father. I decided that flexibility is important in this practice, and that sometimes it is impossible to conceal the fact that you are fasting. There are people in the world who will push food on you and will be offended if you do not partake. I find a gentle explanation of the fact that I am fasting to be much better than an elaborate game of deception aimed at avoiding telling someone you are fasting. Don't volunteer the information, but don't lie to them if you are backed into a corner, and if you do it long enough, you will be.

Hope this helped!

Fasting is something that should be talked about with your doctor if you have any serious health issues. If you have never fasted before, you should experiment with what you can handle before attempting a long or an "absolute" fast.

Christian fasting is a 24 hour a day, up to 40 days venture.(Moses did two 40 day fasts, "back to back") However, if you find you can't last past, say 12 hours on your first try, do not worry. You can try again and again. It takes practice to build up to a long fast. If you can't handle a water alone fast, you could use the electrolyte or a little red grape juice(pure).

It's important to remember to follow Jesus' instructions to wash your face and anoint your head with oil at the start of your fast. Commit your fast to the Lord.

Fasting is a time to draw close to the Lord, to find out what it's like to really be hungry(and therefore develop more compassion for those who are poor) and to present your needs to the Lord.

***Read Isaiah 58 for important information about what the Lord has to say about fasting and healing.

It's true we're not to let on that we're fasting, so brush your teeth often and if someone offers you some food, just say something like "Thanks, but I 'm not up to eating just right now"

An absolute fast is drinking no water or food.

A regular fast is eating no food, only fluids. I used to do water-only fasts all the time but come to find out it is indeed bad for electrolyte levels, and tough on everything in the body. Natural juices are best to help sustain you. A natural juice fast also detoxes your body completely after 21 days but even 1 day is beneficial enough.

A partial fast can be a fast from anything! Computers, caffeine, pop, etc. I did a fast from my computer at once because Ive become very dependent on it.

I am a Catholic and for us when we fast we are allowed one small meal a day and we may eat very small amounts at other mealtimes but, it may not add up to one full meal at all. Some people I know take this one step further and only have bread (a very high quality though) and water once a day. I would not advise fasting for very long at all if you have any sort of a health problem though. We have had Saints though that have survived on nothing but Holy Communion for many months at a time. I think I would advise another sort of devotion maybe in your case. Have you ever visited people in a nursing home. This is a wonderful way to empty yourself for him. In fact we use to say the smellier the nursing home room the more graces we got from visiting. It was kind of funny but, when we walked down the halls of the nursing homes if we detected a funny odor (you know what we mean) we used to almost fight for the chance to go in and visit the people in there.

Hi I am Mormon we are advised not to fast for more than 2 meals or 24 hours. However I would sure enough ask my doctor about any health problems that a fast could affect. The idea of a fast is to suffer hunger and thirst and in that way it keeps your mind upon the Lord. However the Lord does not want you to harm your self in any way that would not help you to become closer to him. We are advised if health reasons stop us from fasting to just do something else that provides speritual thought. I would suggest maybe reading scriptures for a whole day or most of a night providing you didnt have to work or travel the next day.

It is always wise to ask you doctor first before doing a fast of more than 3 days. More than 3 days and your body begins to go into "ketosis" whereby it feeds on stored body fat, and things can go wacky at this point. From a religious standpoint, I am not aware of any particular criteria. Electrolytes are not "food", and could only be a little "insurance" that you won't get too far out of balance.

Surely you don't believe that whatever deity wants you to fast also wants you to, in the process, do something to your detriment, do you? Drink the electrolytes. As far as telling, just say I am not eating today. Whatever you do, start slow. Don't go on a 3 day fast without any experience. Hope this helps you out.

It is OK to tell ppl that need to know you are fasting, for example I used to live with my mom and If I didn't tell her I was not eating she would make supper for me. etc. We are just not suppose to try and let ppl know to get praise.

I fast a lot, and I drink whatever I want, just fast solid food. It is very powerful, and I have seen prayers answered that have not been answered for years, cause we can hear from the Lord better and pray more to the point.

God Bless you
