There are scholarships out there, but the government college grants are either tied to income, certain college majors, or certain GPAs. Most government grant deadlines have already happened. However, you need to start looking and applying now for college scholarships since deadlines are fast happening. I recommend using several approaches to locate scholarship money. I will list some free resources to locate money for college.

First, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major's website will list scholarships, too.

Second, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Third, the high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships and state scholarships & grants.

Fourth, a campus work study job can help with money needed during the school year. The program is funded by the federal government. It will be a job on campus and most times can work to your availability schedule. There should be a box on the FAFSA form for it.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

I know it is not fun that fin aid assistance is based on parent's income, when you are the one that is paying it, however, that is just how the federal government decides to do it.
As far as grants...if you have to pay any money at all, it is a scam, so don't fall for it. As far as scholarships, they only reputable site I know of is fastweb.com. Other than that, deciding to go to an out of state school has many consequences (like having to take out tons of loans that have tons of interest)

Good Luck!

unfortunatly, i cant really give you a good solid answer as to what to do,
However, please whatever you do, dont borrow money for study. It is incredible amount of pressure to try to study full time and work to make ends meet. It is very very difficult to borrow money for study, and study and work full time.
Ive been very close to been financialy bankcrupt and had to stop my studies to make ends meet. It is a waste when this happens as you still have the debt, but then no qualifications.

Anyway, i hope you get a good answer and i hope someone out there who works in school grants can get your message and help you out.

Good luck.

Have you registered for fastweb.org (or .com...can't remember which) yet? They usually have a listing of about every scholarship out there, constantly updating it).
