we had a finch nest in our tree outside and they had built the most magnificent nest. but then the branch fell of and the nest fell to the ground this must have happened yesterday afternoon sometime we found it this morning on the ground and it has 2 little eggs in it but they both have little splited cracks in them :( i currently have heat surrounding them. one of them's shell has rather yellow tinge to it and the other is whiter but you can see there's a red marking inside the shell. does this mean they're both dead? and im not sure if they were really cold before cos i've heated them now. How long do i need to wait to see if they will hatch or not?

omg! i wud never heat them in the microwave! that is crazy lol haha! i have a light that is heating them. so don't worry!

I sorry to say that the fall killed the embryos. When the eggs are shook up or dropped, it separates the cord that goes to the yolk from the baby. I have had chicken eggs that ended up with a hairline crack in them, and I have sealed the eggs with scotch tape or a little bit of melted wax.
Either falling from a tree or becoming chilled could destroy a hatching egg.
The red that you see in one egg is the blood vessels. Take a flashlight in a dark room or closet and shine the light through the egg. This is called candling. If the yolk looks like it is swirling in the egg, the yolk has ruptured and nothing will hatch out. If the eggs didn't fall far and didn't get chilled, try putting the eggs in a Styrofoam cooler and using a small lightbulb for heat. You need 101 degrees for a chicken egg, so try to keep it around that temperature.

I hope you didn't heat them in a microwave or they are toast. They could be dead and rotting, I've had pigeon eggs look like you described and I was sad because they were dead. I picked one up and it was so rotten it exploded almost as soon as I touched it - yuk. That's life, at least your birds are laying eggs and that's cool. Give them space and read up on what it's all about, they probably will lay more. If they hatched by the time you read this - never mind, otherwise toss 'em because it's to late to make an omelet.

it is possible most likey keep them warm untill u r sure
