they advertise that you can record tv shows and watch tv shows and stuff on windows media center but im not sure how it works and i was reading about it and it said something about a tv tuner or something... if anyone knows anything please speak up...

You need a TV tunner ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tv_tuner ) to do that. You can get TV Tunner on your computer provider or on computer shop. just ask them.
What microsoft mean is that you dont need another software to capture TV shows. On XP and other OS you'll need a extra program to do that. On Vista you only need the TV Tunner and Media Center to record TV shows.
Every OS on this world (dont care it windows, apple, kubuntu, ubuntu, mandrake, red hat, or other linux family that an open OS) cannot capture TV shows without a TV Tunner or other TV capture device installed. If there was, i wanna have it!

You will need a TV tuner Card.
Make sure the TV Tuner card is Windows Vista Compatible.

tv tuner card is a interface card for using ur computer as a tv.
u can watch normal cable tv programs on TV using a tv tuner card, u have to buy it additionally to ur computer.
media center needs a TV tuner card, to record the tv programs on to the hard drive.

in order to watch and record tv your computer needs a tv tuner card. you hook the cable right up to the computer and watch tv on your pc.. pretty cool.
