I have not experienced anything like that.
I am really sorry for your loss and I can understand your sadness and confusion but unfortunately the only way to know for sure what caused your dog's death would have been a necropsy. Do not second guess your decision you did what was right for you.
I know this does not answer your questions but I hope it helps.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I am so so sorry for your loss. Yes, it is possible that it could have been cardiomyopathy. Along with Dobermans I think Boxer are prone to this as well. You can do a lot of research & reading on the internet about this. If he was never diagnoised you will never really know for sure. I have a Doberman with this right now and is under vet care & taking meds. Again I am so sorry. That had to be horrible. With cardiomyopathy this way of sudden death does happen. At least your boy did not suffer.

I'm sorry about your lose. Nothing like this happened to my dog, but I did go through a loss. I know it's hard especially if you see his/her collar or food dish or even a strand of hair or nail. It's hard to wake up and instead of expetcing a good morning kiss ( thinking that the death was only a nightmare ) you're in a house that feels empty and you realize it wasn't a dream but reality. You have to live life though. You'll never forget your pet and that's O.K. Make a memorial. Take things that the dog loved or had ( favorite toy, strands of hair, nail clippings, ect. ). and put some pictures of your dog. Make sure that you don't let your loss rule your life. The main rule of life is Life, Death, and Rebirth. Think of it as when your dog died a new litter of boxer puppies were born ( death and rebirth ). He/She has lived a happy life with you and will always be with you. Hope it helps.

:( I"m sooooo sorry for your loss. that is horrible. It could have been anything really. they are alot like humans. could have been a heart attack, stroke, disease. sounds to me like it had something to do with cardivascular system. we had a pug that was way healthy out of the blue started having seizures and was very ill. it just happens. that is way sad. i think what you did though is the right thing. even if they did tell you what was wrong tomorrow it doesn't change anything and there was nothing you can do now. just know you puppy is in a better place and you showed it life.

I am sorry about your loss. It does sound like Cardio and that is something that is a pretty major issue with the Boxer breed. Have you notified the breeder? They need to know and possibly you can get some answers from them as well.
You will never know for sure since you didn't have the necropsy but it sounds like cardio to me.

What they know already -- that I have no money except a life insurance policy, and that the things I collect to sell on eBay are all over the place. Oh, they might find out that I was a pretty damn good writer and artist, but I think they know that too.

The same thing happened to my parent's dog just yesterday. She was breathing heavy and then literally dropped dead. They were aware she had heart problems and she had been having fits of heavy breathing for some time. She was eleven years old.
