I was thinking of buying a Persian cat. This lady breeds persians. She offered me a persian for 300 but when I look at the picture of the cat, he looks like a mixed breed of tabby and Persian. He has the persian face but tabby colors. She is selling her other cats for much more and is giving me a discount on this one. What do you think? Is he worth $300?? Thanks!

Is there anyway this could be a pure bred? With all the colors. I wish I could post a picture. LOL. He is very cute and besides his colors, he looks like a Persian.

Any mixed breed cat is just that, a mixed breed. They really don't have much monetary value. As a breeder of CFA Grand Champion/Regional winning Persians I can tell you that there are Tabby color patterns that are Persians. I have a couple in my breeding program (A brown patched tabby and white, and a Red Tabby and white) A tabby is nothing more than a cat with a striped marking pattern, not a breed. I would ask if the cat was registered and then request to see the pedigree. If there are cats in the pedigree that have tabby listed in their color it is quite possible the cat does have tabby markings. If you go to http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/articles/persian-tabby.html
it will give you a description of the tabby persian along with some pictures of some different tabbies. Take a look. Hope I helped. P.S. If you ask the breeder what the official color of the cat is and post it I will try to describe so you can know if she is lying. By the way $300 is about right for the price of a Pet quality Persian. The more expensive cats are likely Show quality. A pet quality Persian is a purebred Persian that for some reason (such as a crooked nose, tooth that is not straight, head that is not completely smooth) doesn't mostly meet the Breed Standard and could not be put in the show ring or used in a breeding program (we like to use near perfect examples of the breed in our breeding program) hence the lower price.

What is her reason for the discount? That's very suspicious,

I'm a shelter-cat person myself, but if I were a cat buyer I wouldn't pay money for a mixed breed. It's not like dogs, where a mixed breed is worth some fraction of a purebred. With cats, it's either a purebred or it's free.

Tabby is a coat pattern. Persian is a breed. I'm sure both cats are adorable. Why does this have to be a competition? Perhaps you should instead spend time learning to spell difficult words like "What".

I don't think so. I recently got a purebred Birman for $600. Tabbies aren't worth much and persians are worth alot so I would not go for it. F.Y.I...Birmans are pretty cool. I love mine.

I personally wouldn't pay for a mixed breed cat. The alleys are full of free ones.

This is an interesting question, and one that confused me for a very long time.
