Yes its college.
For nursing not much pay in difference as in RN associate degree, and RN with bachelors. They all do the same job function if they work at the bedside, thats why. The pay difference can be as little as 10 cts to $1 depending on location. The difference is that with a bachelors you have more opportunities, you can have management positions, work in research and so forth. But all in all you sit for the same NCLEX-RN exam.
Most magnet hospitals are leaning into BSN, but with the shortage, they have mostly associate RNs.

A bachelors is always preferred--no question. I would submit, however, that with a nursing shortage in the US, a ADN degree will get you a job, no question, as a nurse on many hospital units particularly med/surg. One option to consider is to go after the ADN degree first, and then get hired. Most hospitals/healthcare systems will really want you to go on and get that bachelors degree, and will have some type of tuition reimbursement program and work with you on a flexible schedule so you can work, go to school for the bachelors, and then get much if not all the expense reimbursed.

If you have long term career goals of nursing management, a bachelors is absolutely required and even a master's is needed to become a nursing executive.

RN's are paid for the registered nurse credential. It really is not going to matter how you got it.
