let me narrow my question. the eye of the dragon glowed and when Ridley was about to open his mouth, the elf silenced him and told him not to question his gift. what gift? and what happened when they all touched their hands and then they turned into those balls? WHAT HAPPENED?

As I recall this movie had more than one ending....

Another ending was shot where Empress Savina destroys her rod and proclaims the heroes champions of the throne. According to director Courtney Solomon this was such a bad idea he didn't even put it on the DVD.

Not exactly. While it is sort of a storytelling game, it's an interactive one where the actions of the players help determine the path the story takes. First off, while players might take turns being GM from week to week, in a given game session only one person GMs while the others play. Secondly, while some GMs use a looser story-telling method, that isn't D&D per the rules...it's more a homebrew version based off of them. The GM usually is bound by the rules as much as the players are (GMs who play fast and loose with the rules often find themselves without players.) The GM basically 'plays' everything in the game world that the players interact with, be it in combat, negotiation, information-gathering or whatever. The GM describes what the PCs see, hear, etc. and the players relate how their PCs react to the situation. The PC's skills and abilities (as well as the luck of the dice) determine how effectively and successfully thay deal with whatever the situation is.

I have friends who play D&D and they all love making fun of this movie, they have a whole routine, it's too long to do here.
I never really "got" the ending. My guess is that they were trying to leave it kinda open-ended so they could pick up here and do a sequel (D&D 2: The Search for Snails...no, wait, that's Star Trek :) and the glowing trails were like a "teleport" to the next dungeon. But since the actual direct-to-DVD sequel they did didn't use any of the original characters except the villain, then it didn't make a lot of sense. They were going to resolve the questions, but then didn't. shrug.
