I know I shouldn't be, but I am. I know that they don't hurt that bad but I always get myself all worked up and then I feel stupid. I have to go back in 2 months for another shot and I really want to stop getting so upset. Any help?

I know how you feel. I used to feel the same way until I had tons of practice after having 6 surgeries in the past year and a half, and now I get two allergy shots per week. I am no longer super scared about them because I've had so many IV's, blood drawn, and shots that I'm pretty accustomed to it, but some of the things that have helped me get over it is to relax and take deep breaths, think about positive, and happy things, a stress ball can also help, talking to others, and looking away have all helped a lot for me.

I'm horrified of shots. I just look the other way so i don't see the shot at all and squeeze my teeth together really hard because it will be over soon. It does seem silly to get worked up about something for a long time when it's only a few seconds.

I'd suggest that you just try to remember that it's only for a few seconds and that the pain isn't really that bad at all. If it helps, maybe taking a few deep breaths before and during the shot will keep your mind off of it. Also, not looking may help to relax you.

Many people have fears about injections. a lot of self talk is going to be helpful, continually tell yourself this is going to help me and I will feel good. Many people have to use hypnosis to help them get over fears. It does really work, tapping into the inner mind. Also deep breathing exercises can help you learn how to relax and let go of stress.

I've enclosed links that will help you.

oh, gosh, I would love to do the same thing. I've found that it helps a little to have someone with you to talk to. If the stick you mid sentence you don't even think about it. I get so worked up that I hyperventilate sometimes. Hope you find something helpful.

Me too. I hate them but I hate bloodwork more. So when I have to get a shot I just tell myself it's not bloodwork and it's over- just like that. Hope that helped.

Don't worry about it or trying to change your reaction to it. You're not alone in this situation. Most people have issues with receiving injections. It's OK!

As you can see, you are not alone.
And being tense actually makes it hurt worse.
What I do is look away and just focus on my breathing.
