When I was 16 years old I came to the conclusion that I was an Atheist. Immediately after that decision was made, I felt, as you say, happy and stress-free. I felt as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Normally, you hear of people accepting god into their life and feeling happy, but I felt the opposite. I was confused about that, but I realized I felt that way because I was no longer pretending about believing in god. I felt free because I was no longer lying to myself or others, and I could finally feel comfortable.
However, with work and college, my life is never stress-free :-P

It is not God allowing them to think they are stress free. Satan already has them blinded and making them think, feel that life is good without God. The real culprit is satan. He keeps letting them believe this because he knows when God comes back if they don't repent of their sins they are going to hell. The devil is giving them what they want now but at the end God will have the last say. Why do people keep blaming things on god for ? Just simply saying, because there is a devil out there to that is bringing all these bad things to people and on this earth. God Bless and Jesus is so holy. Why would Satan be after the atheists for, he already has them if they don't repent. Satan goes after the righteous people because he hates what we stand for in Christ. He knows we can win souls for Gods Kingdom and Satan knows also that the power of prayer through Christians can destroy his plans at hand.

Because God allows everything. He's making himself appear to be as nonexistent as possible to challenge peoples' faith. Ya know, he works in mysterious ways and all that nonsense. Wasn't all that mysterious when he flooded the earth and killed just about everyone, or when he killed the Egyptians first born children. But back to your question. I believe there is no god to allow or not allow anything. What's important is that you allow yourself to be happy and free of stress. I think being atheist gets rid of some of the fear that you have of god and what he might do to you if you do certain things, limiting you're actions. Someone who is limited to doing certain things out of fear, is not being realistic or logical and isn't fully embracing their freedom as a human being.

They are NOT I worked for years as a STATE run facility, the worst of the depressed, and the most drug/alcohol addicted were the atheists, it seems that having no ( HIGHER POWER) is a detriment to the mortal soul for some reason.
Less atheists, than God fearing ones recovered permanently.

I love provocative questions, and yours is one! As an agnostic, I am also happy with my philosophical position! Perhaps the conclusion is that a belief in god is not unconditionally the route to happiness, which is, in fact, a situation of inner peace and enjoyment of life, not necessarily related to religion or a belief in a deity, or perhaps atheisism is no more than the absence of fear related to the dire threats of nonbelief: if one has abandoned the concept of god and religion as a penal system for sins and errors in piety, then one is free to enjoy life without contemplating an afterlife of judgment and damnation...

it depends on what you Want to believe. Many religions contradict themselves, a religion is like mythology; giving reasons to why things should be the way they are accepted. The Bible says to "Honour thy mother and father",would you still follow that commandment if your parent was a severe alchoholic or gambler?a reply to your question to why God allows athiests to be so happy and "stress free". Everyone has the right to strive for happiness, but I have a question for you: Who is your God?

The question is are they happy...are they stress free? How many of us thought our life's were fine before we met Christ, I'm mean sure we questioned our reason for living but we were content with what we had and what we believed. It wasn't until we invited Christ into out lives that we realized al that we were missing. We felt for the first time what it was like to have the burden of sins lifted off out backs. We received joy in the spirit which surpasses any Joy we knew before and we had finally filled our hearts desire for purpose.

My father was an atheist until his late 60s. He had 3/4 of his stomach removed due to ulcers in his 30s and had a stress related nervous breakdown in his 40s. I'd hardly call him happy or stress free at that time of his life.
