scooby is correct. I was appaled by the poor answers up until his. the mesh is for reflecting the microwave. if at all damaged, pitch the whole thing.
want to prove me/scooby right? take a cup of water and place just outside of the door (door closed). turn the thing on for a few minutes. does it heat up? no.
microwaves are bad for your body. they cause cancer.

The glass has nothing to do with keeping in microwave radiation. The mesh is what protects users. The pattern in the mesh is design to reflect microwave beams. Microwaves will pass through glass. So the opposite is true, discontinue use of the microwave if the mesh is damaged.

Microwaves are already a slight danger to use because of radiation,don't add more problems to youself by using something that has not been checked for safety

a few years ago the door fell off my mircowave, and untill i could get a new one i used to stand there and have to hold the door in place........there is nothing wrong with me YET
