It's possible this is arthritic inflammation in the joint. This happens frequently and is not always related to gout. You need to see your medical doctor and have some blood test done to see what is going on in your body.

if you feel it is gout I recommend you drink black cherry juice several times a day. You can get this and any health food store.

Reduce the amount of animal protein that you eat. Avoid organ meats, anchovies, gravy, beans, lentils, herring, mackerel and other foods high in purines. Purines can increase the amount of uric acid in your body.

Eat raw fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, and grains to help reduce acid levels in your bloodstream.

A gout diet should include dark-colored berries. These have excellent anti-inflammatory effects and will reduce joint pain. Cherries are thought to prevent future attacks.

Drink lots of fluids, especially water and fruit and vegetable juices to flush your kidneys and get excess uric acid out of your system.

It does sound like gout. My husband gets this at least once a year in his toe joints and even his knee and elbow joints. I think all the doctor can do for it is an anti-inflammatory and maybe some pain meds. For severe cases, your doctor may prescribe a corticosteroid drug such as prednisone. The big thing is to watch your uric acid levels. I think they recommend laying off the red meat. They can also give meds to prevent the production of uric acid. So check with your family doc or run down to a clinic and check it out. Hope you feel better.
