Those who teach soul sleep are usually members of various Christian fringe groups and do not represent the views of orthodox Protestantism.
(eg Jehovah Witnesses, Seventh Day Adventists, etc.)

*Is Catholic*

The problem is either that do not understand what "dead is" (when a person ceases the body, the body is dead, the soul miraculously continues to live) or it is a metaphysical one (not being able to understand how a human soul can exist without a body) or not reading the scriptures (when scripture, expecialy the NT talkes about those in the next world, generaly the "dead" are those in hell the "living" are those in heaven).

Remember the LORD is the Lord of the living not of the dead. Hence, if you are in heaven, you are living not dead.

When a person dies, they are immediately judged as worthy for heaven or worthy for hell. Those for hell are sent there immediately. Those for heaven may have a stop over in purgatory.

Some VERY good books to read on the subject
ESCHATOLOGY by Ratzinger
LIFE EVERLASTING by Garrigou-Lagrange
THE END OF TIME by PIEPER

All very philosophical and nice heavy thinking not bible thumping.

What's up with Catholics thinking they get to decide who's a Saint? All believers in Jesus are Saints. It's in The Holy Bible. I believe God's word over The Catholic Church.

God Bless.

The saints include all the real Christians who have died. Yes they are dead. Their bodies are dead. Their souls are are with Christ, but they cannot communicate with us.

They cannot hear our prayers.

They cannot answer prayers.

Who said you go straight up? The world is like a ball and always turning, so where is straight up?

The saints are dead to the earthly dimension we are living in presently, not in spiritual heaven.

I can't contact my dead brother and he can't contact me.
