How about Saturna Island, B.C., Canada? It's accessible by ferries from the Vancouver area, yet not many people go there because you have to transfer ferries once. There's only about 300 people living on the island, but that increases in the summer. It's amazingly beautiful. You can see bald eagles, deer, killer whales, and more. You can climb up a couple of the small mountains on the island and have an amazing view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Vancouver, the Lower Mainland, Mount Everest, etc.

There is one pub and two small grocery stores. There are B&B's. There are a couple of really nice spots you can try swimming and snorkeling, but scuba diving would probably be better. Anyway, just walking on the beach you'll see a wide variety of sea life at your feet.

Bet you never thought of that place!

Sarah, You need to give us some more information to get the answer you need. Where are you located? What is your price range and how old are you?
With an open ended question like yours there are thousands of Islands that might fit the bill. However; I could recommend The Tahitian Islands but... Tahiti is expensive and over 85% of the people that go to Tahiti are on their Honeymoon. If you are single you probably don't want to hang out with the just marrieds. If you like surfing there is a great Little island off the coast of Bali, Indonesia. It is called Nusa Lembognan and there are no cars allowed on the island. The waves and water are perfect with great snorkeling on the interior and exterior reef. It is not expensive and the people are great. But how far away are you from South East Asia? There is a great beach in Hoian Vietnam that is one of the best in the world. It is really cheap here!! You can get a good a/c hotel room with a pool for as little as $8.00 a night and a beer costs only 16 cents U.S. The whole town is a World Heritage City which means it is fully protected from unrestricted building and will retain its charm forever.(i hope i hope). It is rated as one of the 25 best tourist destinations in the world. I liked it so much that I bought a house here and moved from the US. Good luck on your quest and use your internet resourses.

I recommend Isla Mujeres- you fly into Cancun and it is just a twenty minute ferry ride over to Isla Mujeres. You can go to www.isla-mujeres.net for information. Beautiful beaches and good snorkeling!
