we allowed ourselves to be duped into this bullshit war in iraq and now we are stuck. i agree that ol' sammy bin-hate'n needed kicked in the nuts and the world is a better place without saddam but we really screwed the pooch in the process. so how do we fix this collosal blunder we have created without making it worse than it already is?

Well, that's the question of the decade. What is so unfortunate is that we could be in much better shape in Iraq if the people would be supportive of the war. Remember that when we invaded it was endorsed by the public and by the Congress. When the major combat operations were over, the unanticipated insurgency drew the US into a conflict they did not plan to have. Still, it also provided the opportunity to take the fight to the terrorists and radicals, and make no mistake, we have killed and jailed THOUSANDS during this war. That has made us safer. And just as Sandra Day O'Connor said, as a member of Commission I forget the name of now, if the American people would support the effort, we COULD be successful. But when the people tire of the war (actually they are not against the war, they don't like to FEEL like their country is losing) they give politicians the political cover to take actual action against it. And so now we are at the point where it's pretty much hopeless. A nation divided cannot win a war.

First we aren't better off without Saddam. He was a gangster not a terrorist. He could have been persuaded to help us against our real enemy Iran!! Now our army is stuck playing policeman while Iran and N. Korea thumb there noses at us. To fix it you first have to get enough soldiers to do the job! That means a draft. Only way! Right now our army is made up of guys that were working a normal job one day and the next there headed for Iraq. That's really not a professional army. Iraq needs 200 to 300 thousand troops to secure it. In addition we need 50 to 60 thousand to secure our own borders! Another 100 thousand to finally secure Afghanistan. These troops would have to be supplied that would mean money, as in taxes. Or we could just run away and let them laugh at the weak Americans and plan there next attack.

Now that is a plan I would like to hear. We can not pull out of Iraq until they can stand on their own two feet and I have yet to hear anyone put forth a plan that can make that happen. Everyone that I have heard keeps saying either we need to pull out or we need to stay but I have not heard a plan to get them on their feet.
You are so right in everything you said but I am at a loss as to how to fix this big mess that we have made. This isn't Vietnam folks so if we pull out now it would be as big a mistake as going in, in the first place.

We need to get the hell out, we are losing many lives, don't belive what high ranking officials say about soldiers wanting to stay. that's all B.S. Service Members are not allowed to express their true feeling. this people have been killing themselves for thousands of years, who in their right mind think they can change this in just a few years, this is what they do best. Our retarded president, who by the way forgot that the government is for the people, by the people thinks so.

Our best bet is to start over for the 2008 elections. Get as many new people in as possible. As much as i love my old republicans in office, we need to step up the brain activity speed. I fear that most of our old democrats and republicans are coming down with a collective Alzheimer's.

The way I see it, we have two choices:
1. Get out and let them do whatever the hell they want to do with the country.
2. Go balls to the wall, and kill every last one of them.
Anything other than those two options will merely result in the meaningless deaths of more of our sons and daughters.
