Well usually my cat is laying on my lap and I'll turn of the tv and say ready for bed? He jumps off and jumps into bed. I try to get there before he does cause he hogs the bed and will not move over for anybody.

We used to have a cat that liked to go to bed with us, so the last thing I would do was go find him and tell him I was going to bed. He'd dash in and hop in bed, but I had to make certain that I'd done all the usual things first, because if I didn't follow him immediately, he'd howl at me until I came to bed.

make a list of "to do's" (pour le matin)
bathroom, wash, tea, hair, glass of water for the bedside, check my messages, light a candle, turn off the main light, switch on the night light mobile, prayer, read, . .turn the pillow over so its cool. . make sure my moby has enough charge so it doesnt switch off through the night . . . by then its almost time to get up.

Before bed....let the dog out, and watch him look at the stars instead of taking a pee, lock up, and get a glass of water.
In bed.....Kiss and hug my wife and tell her I love her, just before I go to sleep.
