I may be moving to new york city soon and I have no clue where to begin to look for a place to live. I'm on a budget and wold like someplace large enough to turn around in. I will be working in downtown manhattan but don't mind a reasonable commute. Any suggestions?

I recommend checking out Park Slope in Brooklyn. It is 25-30 minute commute via subway. The area is fantastic! It is close to Prospect Park which is great if you are into outdorr activities like running, biking, baseball, etc. It is a great neighborhood where all the people are tight and know each other. 7th Avenue is home to many shops, restaurants, bars (great night life) You can get a 1 bedroom starting at around $1200 and you be able to actually move. Apartments in NYC start much higher, and you don't even get a one bedroom. You can also check out areas in Queens, but the commute is a bit longer, 45-60 minutes. Good luck with the search !

You can live in a tiny hellhole in a great area, or you can have space in a bad neighborhood. You can get a great one bedroom in Union CIty, NY with a 10 minute commute time into Manhattan for around $900/mo, and it will be huge.

In Manhattan, a studio in a bad area is like $1100, decent is $1400, and a great area is like upwards of $1800. Brand new could even be $3,000 a month in Chelsea or the village.

Go on craigslist, get a roommate that is temporary, in Manhattan, then find the areaand price you like. A decent share in the East village would be like $900-1200.

I think these two people are irresponsible, sick animal abusers. I think they should be put in cages and let out a couple times a day to toilet. And shock collars? Why? To stop the miserable, abused dogs from expressing their anguish by barking or whining and interrupting the owner's TV time? I'm not sure if animal control will help, but it's sure worth a call. These people should not be allowed to own pets. Here's hoping there is some mercy in this world and they don't have children!

You can't get any place with a reasonable commute for under $1200. Good luck..

Brooklyn is great. But unless you can afford to pay about 1500 a month, you're going to need to get roommates.

Try craigslist.org
