Love is giving without any thought of getting something in return. I think you agree with this universal definition?
Yet you Christians, love Jesus because he promised you heaven in return. He's the only way to heaven.
If Jesus promised you nothing, would you still love him? I doubt it. You would still fear him. But not love him.
I conclude, you're in love with that "bridge to heaven", and not Jesus himself.

You are mistaken because you do not have the love of God in yourself.
If you did you would realize the love God gives is free from the element of selfishness and loves the object of its love for the sake of the object loved rather than for the sake of the one loving.
This is an attribute of love referred to by the great evangelist of the nineteenth century, Charles G. Finney as "disinterested benevolence."

This is what you call putting everyone in a basket and calling them all apples. Non-sense. Christian is a faith that believes all things about God and trust in the one unseen by man,it is a virtue of love and mercy and grace. Kindness and compassion all balled up into one. Jeremiah 29:11God's word says. " I know the plans I have for you. plans not to harm you but give one a hope and a future also and expected end." Man also has a definition of what love is. I think you have said it. Read 1 Corinthians 13. Is not unkind and not critical of others.

Not sure you've got that "universal definition" right considering what's goes on in the name of "love". But - you do have the Biblical definition right. Jesus definitely first loved us. He knew us before the foundation of the world and loved us no matter how unloveable we are. No doubt that infinite love from Him generates loves in us for Him. He chose to make himself the Redeemer of mankind so it would be impossible to totally disconnect the idea of redemption from the love of Jesus. What's your point? You would reject eternal salvation because it might imply your love of Jesus was conditional? You can "love" Jesus and still refuse to put your faith and trust in Him. Your love may be very "pure" but your pride will quickly melt in hell.

I think many do not really love Jesus or are Christians for any other reason than wanting heaven.

If God is real, however, he can see into someone's heart and know who is true and who is just afraid.

you probably did not omit any logic in any respect and in fact your 3 statements are the fact. What believers understand is that God is an eternal being. And he created eternal beings like the devil and his angels as properly. in fact Matthew 25:40-one says that hell became initially made for under the devil and his angels. And he created guy with an eternal soul as properly. the fact is that on a similar time as God is eternal love he's likewise eternal holiness and he's the eternal righteous that judges against sin. those are eternal characteristics of God which will by no skill substitute. So he has eternal places for people who want to stay with God in his eternal love. And he has an eternal place for people who don't and could journey his eternal punishment. This plan existed long earlier he created the universe with guy in it. the affection of God by using Jesus Christ became to coach how a loving God became keen to die for a rebellious and evil guy. And that as quickly as men observed themselves and their deeds in mild of God's love they could repent of their sins and turn to God. No guy on the day of judgment who has heard the gospel message can tell God they have been harmless and did not settle for the fact and repent of their sin. the only one they could blame is them self.

Please allow me to correct you.....We love God because He is our Real Father in heaven. God knows our hearts and knows who is a true and faithful servant and who isn't. God cannot coerce anyone to love Him just because He has promised (through Jesus Christ) us eternal life in His Kingdom. God has given His Holy Spirit to those who have fully and sincerely repented of their sins and accept His Son Jesus Christ into their lives as Lord and Savior. The Spirit of God which dwells within us bares witness that we are His children and He is our Father. Now knowing, only through the discernment and power of the Holy Spirit that we have the ability recognize the difference between the Lie and the Truth, what is sin and what is not sin. Freedom from sin is freedom from the deception of Satan, who is the god of this age. Yes.....God does promise good things to those who truly love Him....which also means obeying His Commandments.....All of them.

You can't be a born again Christian without going to the cross and realizing what Christ did for you and me. Who could help but love someone who gave His life for you and me? He was beaten for me. He wore a crown of thorns for me. He was nailed to a cross for me.

It's what Jesus did that makes me love Him. It is the CROSS.
It is not what He promised. I think of the alternative. What if Christ had not gone to the cross of Calvary? We would all be dead in our sins with no hope of an everlasting life. NO HOPE. My optimism is from Christ. Christ gave me hope. He increases my faith as I read His Word. Christ taught me love. Christ taught me how to be humble. Almighty God washed the feet of His disciples. Christ found the way for a pancreas and kidney transplant for my daughter. The Lord has been by my side all of my life. He has never forsaken me.
He gave me strength when I had none. He gave me words when words were needed. He literally made a way when I saw no way. It brings tears to my eyes as I think of my wonderful, loving Savior. I can't out-love Him, but I sure do love Him. From age 11 to 62, Jesus showed up many times.
I've never had a better friend. A more loving Savior. My life is His. I am nothing without Him. Praise His Holy Name-Jesus!!!

I hate to disappoint you but, I fell in love with Jesus before I ever asked him for a thing. I never really expected anything until the bible showed me different. Now he showers me with blessings.
Why do you sound so angry? Like you're the only person who is worthy. No-one is worthy!
Jesus Saves, Amen

Well, even though you're using this question to belittle us, I will tell you something you likely didn't expect.

You're partially correct. As John wrote, "There is no fear where love exists. Rather, perfect love banishes fear, for fear involves punishment, and the person who lives in fear has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us." (I John 4:18-19)

Only God loves perfectly. As we grow in Christ, we love Him better, but still not perfectly.

You point at us, hoping to make an example, yet I doubt seriously that you love your wife, significant other, etc. perfectly. Take care of your own life, and we'll take care of ours.
