I used to be fairly good friends with a co-worker of mine until I left to join another school (I'm a teacher) then we seemed to lose touch. She recently left a message for me saying to call her sometime to say hi. I think it will be awkward what does it mean just to say hi.

She took the first step in initiating contact with so, if you wish to become friends with her again, it's up to you to say something like this:

"Well hey! How's it going? It's really good to hear from you; I'm so glad you called. So, how've you been doing?"

If she's wanting to rekindle the friendship, she'll take it from there. If not, you've at least "made civil" with each other, and that counts too.

she misses you, wants to remain friends, keep in touch..
Even if you are not interested, she did go out of her way to call you, so the nice thing is to call back.. ask her how she is doing, what is new with her... and then maybe you will want to see her again.. if not, just say it was really nice talking to her. This way, she won't continue to call.

I think just it means just what she said. She was just thinking of you and wanted to say hi and she wants you to give her a call to see how you're doing. Sounds like she misses you. Sounds like you two were on good terms but just lost contact. Give her a call..I think it will brighten both of your days.

Once you call her and say hi and catch up on everything you may find you still have alot im common how about this...."Hi (her name here) I got your message so I decided to call you and catch up on things...what's new?"

It could mean she misses you and wants to get back in touch. Could mean she considered you a friend.
Peace be with you.

She probably just wants to catch up with you to see how life has been treating you in the interim.

Generally to let each of you know how the other is doing. It may be that she values your friendship, and doesn't want to lose it.
