I live in Miami, Florida with my fiance. Since my entire family lives in Indiana we have decided to have the wedding up there. I think it would be really fun to do a tropical themed wedding since a lot of people have never even seen the ocean. I want it to be elegant...not like hawaiian lei's and flowery t-shirts. Centerpeices: Sand w/ shells in a hurricane lamp w/ candle.
Place cards w/ little shells on them.
Signature cocktail - mai tai, pina colada.
Food: Asian type stuff - sushi, tempura, terriaki

Be sure to inform everyone to wear something nice or formal, nothing to match the theme, that way it stays elegant.
I found some sites for tropical wedding themes, it seems very elegant, not at all tacky. hope they help, best of luck!

I think this site has a picture of a simple, but elegant, centerpiece. I would add a candle in a votive cup, to illuminate the table. It is something you could do yourself, in advance of the wedding.

depending on the date/ weather, u could steal my best friends idea for her beach wedding. everything completely formal except no one is allowed to wear shoes bc it will actually be on the beach.

what about sand dollars? sea stars?or, if you want to be "silly" about it... what about lille "net" bags that hold goldfish?
