I've had my best results with a Parachute Adams. That's usually my go-to dry fly -- does the best job of imitating most natural hatches. Most of my catches on the East Coast have been with the Adams.

Best wet flies I've used are callibaetis nymphs -- brown and black -- as droppers off a damselfly. Caught some real hogs in Oregon with that.

If you're going to a place you've never been before, find and stop in at the nearest fly shop -- they'll know the best flies for that day in the local area, and will most likely have plenty of them stocked up. Great source of info and supplies.

if they are wild brownies go for small wet flies in more traditional patterns with a more bushy fly on the top dropper if it's a stocked loch go for the usual mini lures or try the dry fly if there are fish rising
